2 German armbands.One in printed cotton with chain stitched edging, and issue stamped to the front and back.Notes: depending on your sources, these single rune armbands have described both as Jungvolk armbands, or Flemish Youth members armband (NSJV).The ink issue stamps are both for Waffen SS flak units.Plus, a post ww2 Zollverwaltung (Customs) armband, with hemmed edges and back, machined embroidered detail to the front.Condition: foxing and soling to the cotton of the youth armband, the fabric is also stiff.The post war armband is in good condition, with minimal service wear.
A scarce WW1 Canadian casualty group, named to 249282 Pte Maurice Gillespie 58th Canadian Infantry.Comprising of; The Canadian Memorial Cross, named to the reverse and also marked ‘Sterling’, the British War Medal, Victory Medal, and a bronze Memorial Plaque.Plus, the original Memorial Cross box and condolence slip, the original car medal box, the original paper envelope and card transit box for the death plaque, the parchment scroll, 2 period uniform photographs of Pte Gillespie, a period photograph of Pte Gillespie’s original wooden cross grave marker, a period newspaper clipping reporting on the death of Pte Gillespie, a period Burial report, plus 15 pages of research.Additionally there are 2 WW1 era Canadian base metal sweetheart brooches.Notes: Maurice Gillespie (1887-1918) was a native of Banbridge, Nothern Ireland, the only son of Kathleen Gillespie.He attested in Toronto, Canada on April 6th 1916, where he also stated that he’d had 2 years previous military service with the ‘10th Grens’.Pte Gillespie suffered a gun shot wound to the head on October 3rd 1918, and was remarked as being ‘dangerously ill’.On October 6th he remained dangerously ill, but it was noted that he ‘may be visited’.He medical report states the he died from his wounds on October 13th 1918 at the Canadian General Hospital in Etaples, France, less than a month before the cessation of hostilities.Given the location of his regiment at time he received his wound, it seemed likely that Pte Gillespie was a casualty of the Battle of Cambria.Condition: Excellent throughout - the BWM and Victory medals are complete with their original watered silk ribbons, and both medals remain in mint condition.The death plaque remains in excellent condition, as does its card transit caseThe Canadian Memorial Cross lacks its original ribbon, but instead has a white metal chain so it may be worn as a pendant.
A WW2 era NSDAP party flag or drape for a podium.Screen printed white circular panel, chain stitched to a red cotton base.Double sided with round panels stitched to both sides.No apparent makers marks or other stamps.Notes: appears to have been cut at both shorter edges, probably to remove it from a larger structure or wall.Interestingly, whomever cut out the white circle has left some of the guide dots to show where to trim the fabric.Approximately 83xm x 70cm.Condition: generally good.Some soiling to the white area, and some other darker (grease or ink?) stain to some of the red cotton.The shorter edges are uneven and frayed in places.General creasing from storage.
A late 19th / early 20th century brass fireman’s helmet by Merryweather & Sons of London.Standard pattern with raised comb to the skull, the former with dragon decoration to each side.Crossed axe and torch badge in raised brass to the front.Peak and neck guard with reinforced edge, rosette studs to each side to hold in place the chain and leather chin strap.Part leather liner to the inside, plus an applied brass Merryweather makers name plate.Condition: generally a good example of its type.Some light contact marks to the skull and a small, light crease to the neck guard.The dragon decoration, and crossed axe badge has ingrained old polish, as have the rosettes to the sides.The leather and chain strap is missing a securing piece to the centre, so the two halves hang loose.The liner has partially gone, with only the headband part remaining.Generally a good overall colour and patination.
A rare Soviet Russian Medal of Ushakov.First instituted in 1944 in the Soviet Union as an award for courage.It was authorised for wear, by eligible British veterans, by H.M. Queen Elizabeth II in 2013.Produced in silver with usual applied anchor motif to the reverse.Folded ribbon with draped chain attached to a aluminium frame.Pin back fitting to the reverse.Notes; numbered 14573 to the reverse side.Approximately 3.5cm width x 4.8cm height (including suspension ring).Condition: service wear to both obverse and reverse, with contact marks and minute surface scratches.The ribbon has appeared to have faded a little, and is a little frayed to one side.Some surface verdigris is present to the metal ribbon frame.
