ZHANG SHUQI (1900-1957) A BLACK HEN AMIDST FLOWERS A Chinese scroll painting, ink and colour on paper, title-slip by Xue Xun dated xin zheng san nian, signed Shuqi Zuo, with one artist's seal, inscribed and dated Christmas 1942, Field Marshal Wavell kindly accepted as a gift from Luo Zhuoying, 110cm x 31.5cm. Provenance: Field Marshal Archibald Percival Wavell, 1st Earl Wavell, GCB, GCSI, GCIE, CMG, MC, KStJ, PC, 1883-1950, and thence by descent. Luo Zhuoying (1896-1961), was a Republic of China General in the National Revolutionary Army. Luo served during the Second Sino-Japanese War and was later the Chairman of the Government of Guangdong Province. While Luo was a prominent military and political leader, he was also renowned for his talent in poetry and literature. After the Chinese victories, he published his poems inspired by the battles of the Second Sino-Japanese War.張書旂(1900-1957) 花下雛雞學訓署簽:張書旂粉末花下雛雞立軸,辛巳三月學訓題簽。設色紙本 立軸羅卓英題識:魏飛爾將軍惠存,羅卓英贈,一九四二年耶穌誕節。款識:書旂作。鈐印:書旂來源:英國陸軍元帥阿奇博爾德·波西瓦爾·魏菲爾伯爵一世(1883-1950)收藏,之後由其後人繼承。註:羅卓英 (1896-1961) 曾擔任中華民國軍事司令長官及廣東省政府主席。羅身經百戰,為抗日戰爭的的重要將領。羅卓英是頗有文學底蘊的儒將,他鍾情文學和擅長寫詩,抗戰勝利後羅曾出版創作於抗戰時期的詩集。

A DOUCAI ‘WANG XIZHI’ PORCELAIN CUP  China, Qing Dynasty, Kangxi period   Delicately potted with deep rounded sides resting on a countersunk base, the exterior brilliantly enamelled with a continuous scene depicting Wang Xizhi dressed in a red robe and seated on a willow tree trunk,  gazing at a wild geese frolicking on a pond. [RUSSIAN PRINCELY FAMILY] A LATE 19TH CENTURY RUSSIAN SILVER FIDDLE AND THREAD PATTERN SOUP LADLE BY SAZIKOV 1877-82 cursive script mark, International medal winners mark, Moscow 1882, 84 zolotniki, Imperial warrant, engraved with an armorial under a crown, 35.5cm (14in) long, 357g (11.45 oz)These engraved arms can be identified as belonging to a Russian Prince. The arms belong to the descendants of Sergey Grigorievich VOLVONSKY (1788-1865) who married to Maria RAYEVSKAYA.Prince Sergey was a grandson of Field Marshal Nicholas Repnin, a leading statesman during Catherine the Great's reign. He was a Major General in the Russian Army during the Napoleonic Wars and took part in the December conspiracy of 1825 and despite being sentenced to be beheaded had his sentence commuted to life in prison: as an exile for thirty years in Siberia. He was allowed to return in 1856 on the accession of Alexander II. He lived the remainder of his life with his wife Maria in the village of Voronki (Little Russia), which was owned by their daughter. He was a cousin of Leo Tolstoy.
