WW2 Medals and Insignia of Lt Colonel D G Boyd Royal Engineers who was Mentioned In despatches for Gallantry in North West Europe, the medals consist of 1939-45 star, Africa star with 8th Army bar, Italy star, France & Germany star, Defence medal, 1939-45 war medal with MID oak leaf and 1937 George VI Coronation medal which has been privately named around the edge Lt D G B Boyd RE. Medals have been court mounted. Medals are accompanied by his original identity discs, officers tunic bronze collar badges, tunic medal ribbons and some tunic buttons. ** Derek Gerald Boyd enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers in 1933, he retired from the army on the 2nd September 1953 and was given honorary rank of Lt Colonel. His father was Major General Gerald Farrell Boyd CB CMG DSO DCM Royal Irish Regiment. The mention in despatches award appeared in the London Gazette 4th April 1946. He wrote two books once he left the army, The Gordon Heritage – The Story of General Charles Gordon and the Gordon Boy’s School and A Short History The Royal Engineers. Medals come with a large amount of photocopied paperwork.

Scarce Early REME Shoulder Titles, being embroidered red on black, all show evidence of wear. Accompanied by an embroidered Royal Engineers slip on shoulder title which has had a red on black REME title sewn over the top. Vendor states these titles were worn in India but also at a technical training college in Reigate to train senior NCO’s of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps right at the beginning of the regiment’s existence. Great War Photograph Album of Gallipoli, Royal Scots and Tank Corps Interest, the album was compiled by 2nd Lieutenant Harry Bryce. Starting in 1914 with images of troops at camp Larbert. Album continues with travel to the middle east via Gibraltar and Malta. Images identified as being taken in Gallipoli, good clear image of troops in a trench, X Beach, Captured Turkish prisoner. Album moves away from the middle east and then moves to the western front with images of graves in the Arras cemetery and an image of an officer of the 17th Battalion Royal Scots who was killed. In 1917 it appears that Bryce became attached to the Tank Corps as the album starts to show images of men, mostly from Scottish regiments, by tanks etc. Large format publicity images of Bryce’s tank which was named Julian, at war bonds events in the UK, including image of manoeuvres being carried out in front of spectators. Album continues with some smaller size snapshot images, all of tank interest. The album ends with images taken during the army of occupation and civilian life. Images are all housed in a period photograph album, most images have annotations below the image. Accompanied by some post war scrolls awarded to Harry Bryce. (233 images)

Poster was produced by the Publicity Department Central Recruiting Depot Whitehall. Poster was printed by Andrew Reid & Co Ltd. Poster has been folded but still remains in good overall condition.

Poster was printed by Beck & Inchbold Ltd. Poster is mounted into a card frame mount. Accompanied by another Great War recruiting poster showing the flags of the allied armies with WHY NOT JOIN THE ARMY through the middle. Rare Japanese Army Pilots Photograph Album compiled by a Japanese army pilot called Komatsuzaki of the Hamamatsu Bomber Squadron. The album consists of snap shots and formal pictures of high ranking Japanese generals, comrades, group photographs, pilots in flight gear uniforms, planes in flight and on the ground, crashed aircraft etc. Some pages are numbered and a typed description of the page is included with the album. A very interesting and scarce album. Japanese aviation albums seldom appear on the collectors market. (92 photographs)

Scarp Book Album Compiled by Major B E Thackery Royal Horse Artillery, the large album covers the immediate post WW2 era with the British Army of the Rhine, up until 1980’s. The album consists of invitation cards, event menus, letters and other associated ephemera. Some items are relating to reunions with the Royal West African Frontier Force (R.W.A.F.F). All housed in a large album.

British Army 1960’s Far East Campaign Photograph Album, which appears to have been compiled by a P Trumper. The album consists of mostly black and white larger format photographs showing locals, religious artefacts, buildings, British troops etc. The images have a description of the subject next to them. Good clear images of the Waterways of Hong Kong, image taken in Malaya of a mock Japanese POW camp, patrol during conflict in Indonesia. Images are all housed in a large album, some pages are loose. All images are very clear. Areas covered include Malaya, Brunei, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand etc. (70 images)

Polish Internees in Switzerland Medal, silver medal awarded for Polish troops who were interned in Switzerland. Obverse of the medal has profile of Bronislaw Prugar-Ketling and NOEL DES INTERNES EN SUISSE 1942. Reverse of the medal has Polish eagle to the centre and BOZE NARODZENIE W SZWAJCARDII DSP. Medal has a pale blue ribbon and remains in good condition.** The Polish Army in France served with distinction during the fall of France campaign. A large section of Polish troops were surrounded by German forces but managed to break through to neutral Switzerland where the men were interned for the duration of the War. Many men however escaped and managed to join up with the Free Polish forces in France and later United Kingdom.
