The couple's home-grown gem business soon gained a prominent position on Broadway before Jacob realised the potential of Fifth Avenue in 1885. The business operated from a succession of prime sites at this prestigious location, in addition to establishing boutiques in Palm Beach and Chicago. During their years in operation, Dreicer & Co. handled a number of important diamonds and pearls, exhibiting these precious gems at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (1904) and the Grand Central Palace in Manhattan (1915). Their son, Michael (1868-1921) became one of the leading pearl experts in the world and the firm became highly regarded in this field. Testament to the quality of their jewels, as demonstrated by the exquisite design and delicate workmanship of this lot, Cartier purchased their entire stock after Michael Dreicer's death and the business ceased trading in 1926.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
