John Paul Cooper (1869-1933) Arts and Crafts era 14ct+(tested) gold sapphire, moonstone and chrysoprase necklace. The necklace having delicate heart-form links interspersed with gold floret set with cabochon moonstone and heightened with sapphire and chrysoprase, approx 41 cms, the center drop is approx 38 mm, bearing the makers mark, the weight approx 24.59 gms. Note: John Paul Cooper was a leading jeweler and craftsman in the Arts and Crafts movement. He started out as an architect but later specialized as a jewellery designer, goldsmith and silversmith. He later accepted a position of Head of Metalwork Department at Birmingham School of Art. The school became the focus of a generation of distinguished designers, all of whom studied and later taught there, they became known as the 'Birmingham Group'.

All enamel numerals and marks in tact and legible. There is a heavy amount of crazing to the dial, which is mostly concentrated around the outer edge becoming lighter towards the centre.Case: Glass in quite heavily scratched, but no cracks or chipping. Case in in good order, moderate scratching concentrated to the sides and lugs, some dirt build up around the screws, but no splitting or signs of repair. Some wear to the lettering on the reverse of the case, but all marks are legible. Sapphire to crown in good order.Strap: Good order, moderate wear to the leather around the buckle holes and tip of the strap, some general creasing consistent with wear, but no splitting. Strap width 14mm.Accompanying service letter dated 12th February 2003.
An Art Deco sapphire and diamond ring, the central rectangular emerald cut Burmese sapphire (measuring 12.12mm x 8.81mm x 5.20mm), approximate weight 5.66 carats, with three square cut diamonds to each shoulder, all set in white metal to a plain polished shank, approximate ring size M, weight 4.7gms With accompanying Gemmological Certification Services report no. 81298-70, stating that the carat weight is 5.66ct approx, that the stone is a natural corundum sapphire, of Myanmar (Burma) origin and there are no indications of heating. Condition Report; Central Sapphire: Good order. There is a small fracture to the girdle/underside of the stone, located at one of the canted corners just next to the claw. This measures approximately 1 - 1.5mm across. It is not visible from a table view of the stone. There is also a very minor nibble to one of the corners on the girdle. This is only visible at 10x. There are some very minor scratches and signs of light wear to the upper facets, but no other fractures or nibbles. All facets edges are crisp and sharp.All diamonds are present and in tact. No chipping or fractures, very minor wear only. They are bright and sparkly when viewed face up, and do not show a notable draw of colour. A couple of the diamonds show very small inclusions under a 10x lens.All stones are secure. There is damage to the gallery setting (one of the bands is broken and may require repair - see side profile pictures for illustration. There is some wear to the claws around the sapphire. Evidence of re-sizing to the band.Also pictured: The stone is shown in two pictures with direct torch light shining behind it.

The large banded agate brooch, knot design brooch and the silver dagger brooch are set with agates.The overall condition of this lot is fair. All pieces show some degree of wear and damage, varying light to heavy from piece to piece. Some pieces are missing stones, or have enamel loss or organic matter loss. The majority still have pins and are in working order, however some have had fittings broken or their pins mishapen/bent. A sapphire ring, the central untested rectangular step cut light blue sapphire measuring 8mm x 9.5mm, claw set to a pierced scroll design gallery and shoulders and unmarked plain polished shank, ring size K, weight 6.2gmsPLEASE NOTE; This stone has not been laboratory tested for natural or synthetic origin, however under 10x magnification, the stone is largely clear, but there is a small, transparent angular inclusion just above one of the claws. This looks to be a crystal inclusion. There is also a small, dark coloured surface fracture to one of the top facets (this can be seen in the first and second pictures).

An early 20th century diamond and sapphire set 15ct gold ring, comprising three round mixed cut sapphires and a single cut diamond set to an engraved panel with plain polished shank, ring size M 1/2 (at fault), together with a 9ct gold dress ring, with black glass panel mounted with initial 'R', ring size N, and a blue paste set ring, shank stamped '9C' ring size K 1/2, gross weight of group 5.9gms (3)Condition Report; Sapphire example: Worn. Three of the four diamonds are missing. Remaining diamond as sapphires show moderate abrasion, concentrated at the facet edges. Moderate wear to the claws surrounding the diamond, minor wear to those around the sapphires. Moderate wear to the engraved decoration. Heavy scratching and general wear to the exterior. Heavy thinning to the shank, but no signs of splitting, resizing or repair.Paste example: Worn. Heavy scratching an wear to the central stone, giving it a cloudy appearance. Some splitting around the setting of the stone. Halo surrounding the stone is in good order, no splitting or signs of repair, but showing moderate wear and tear consistent with regular wear. Head looks as though it may not be original to the shank, and may of been added later. Shank in fair order, some minor cracks to the shank around the pressed '9C' mark, but no thinning or major misshaping. General scratching and wear only.'R' example: Fair order, no splitting, thinning or major damage to the 'R'. Black glass in good order, no cracks, chips, abrasions or major damage. Some wear to the decoration on shoulders, but no signs of splitting or repair. There is possible signs or repair/resizing on the shank, as well as general thinning, but no splitting.
