From the Albert Ward collection, Essex, UK; acquired on the UK antiques market between 1974-1985. The so-called stirrup rings were in fashion from the 12th-14th century AD in England, often worn by ecclesiastical dignitaries. From the 7th century AD onwards, sapphires were worn by bishops as a symbol of the papal authority invested in them. Four old European cut diamonds, milligrain set to the bar in white faced collets, to a trace link chain with an engraved box clasp. Tested as approximately 18ct gold, 9ct gold and platinum. Centrepiece 45mm long, 4.72gThe vendor has stated that the pendant 'was made by my maternal grandfather's father, Solomon Weitzman (1859 'Krakam, Austria'), for his daughter who died prematurely, and has been in our family to date'.Condition report: Table and crown facet edge wear. Substantial abrasion to the facet and facet edges.Later underbezel to the synthetic sapphire collet. Light surface marks commensurate with its age.
