An early 19th century French needlework sampler dated 1814, worked in pale colours with a crucifix beneath the letters 'INRI', flanked by a pair of trees, above a monstrance, a pair of candlesticks, vases of flowers, plants and Christian symbols above the inscription 'Dedice A Madame Dufresne Fait Ce 29 Mars 1814', inside a meandering foliate border, in a glazed ebonised frame 39 by 35.5cms.
A FRAMED GEORGE IV NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, sewn by Elizabeth Morton 1823, two proverbs read 'When I was young I littler thought, that learning was so dearly bought, but now experience teacheth me, that childish toys are vanity' and 'How vain are all things here below, how false and yet so fair, each pleasure hath it's poison too, and every sweat a snare', between the proverbs are bands of flowers and trees with a repeat pattern border, approximate size 38cm x 28cm, Condition Report: there are holes in places with losses to the border
