A Persian vagireh or sampler rug, possibly Lillian, late 20th century, with central lotus flower motif on a pale madder ground111 x 156cmVagireh, or sampler rugs, are generally small pieces exhibiting the design elements and borders of a larger rug or carpet. They were a tool rug weavers would use to illustrate to clients how they would appear once scaled up into a full size piece. A George IV sampler by Jane Backhouse aged 12 years, dated 1824. 41 x 30 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The sampler is not framed. It is in generally good condition with no significant perishing. There are some minor losses to the needlework around the extremities. The linen backing is generally all over stained. The worst areas of loss are around the top right-hand corner. The main body of the sampler is in good condition with only minor deterioration of the threadwork.
