A William IV needlework sampler by Elizabeth Scholes, November 1833, the central verse below bands of numbers and letters, worked with coloured thread in cross stitch, approx 28cm x 24cm, within an oak frame, together with a Victorian band sampler by Fanny Roberts, 1853, approx 29cm x 19cm, within an oak frame.

A George III sampler in green, pinks and blue silk thread, decorated with geometric and floral borders, the centre with a bird, floral sprigs and vases of flowers and crowns, inscribed "Wrought by Jan Holgate 1778. I have done this that you may be what care my parents took of me", the top with alphabet and inscribed "Jan Holgate the daughter of Richard and Alles Holgate was born May the tenth 1766, thou hath the paths of life display which to thy presence lead where pleasures dwell without allay and joys that never fade", 42 x 31cm.

Repairs. Provenance: Bought from Anthony Scaramanga Antiques, Witney, Oxfordshire in 1979.
