Victorian sampler worked in polychrome silk threads by Jane Quine Douglas, July 10, 1832(?), with verse, landscape with animals, birds, house, trees and shepherd and vases of flowers surrounded by stylised floral border, 52 x 43cm, contained in rosewood frame with gilt slip. NB: Very discoloured and browned.
A large in memoriam sampler,1837, large memorial spot motif sampler by Betty Wrigley in memory of Sarah Kinder'the daughter of George and Mary Kinder who departed this life July 6 1836 aged 26',64 x 64cm, framed and glazedThis sampler commemorates the life of Sarah Kinder who died early at the age of 26. The family experienced further tragedy when the mother, Mary Kinder, was murdered at age 78 at Rhodes Fold Farm, Werneth Low. This crime went unsolved despite a £150 reward being offered, although in 1881 a man in America did make a deathbed confession to the murder.

An Early 19th Century Sampler Worked by Matilda Shenstone, Aged 11 years, Dated 1832, finely worked in coloured silks with central verse and numerous decorative features including flowering trees, trees, baskets of flowers, peacocks, birds, stags, flock of sheep, dogs etc within a foliate border, framed, 48cm by 60cmSeveral small holes to the lower edge, and to the right of the verse, and to the upper part of the sampler. Little bit of of 'bleeding' to the green border on the lower edge. Slight discolouration to the central verse.
