AN 18TH CENTURY DARNING SAMPLER the coarse woven cloth stitched with patches of darning in assorted coloured silk thread and with stitched and cutwork initials and date "IP 1772" 23.5cms x 24cms; another similar darning sampler worked in black and cream thread and named "M.Swan Alton School 1811"; another similar named "M Swan" and a small alphabet sampler by "Betsy Smith Her?? 1826?" (4) ++all in good condition
A sampler dated 1829 by Julia Caroline Anvill aged 7 years; with religious text to the top and floral sprigs to either side, a naturalistic design to the centre and short text to the bottom of the field, again, with floral sprigs to the sides, surrounded overall by flowering border,worked in muted coloured silks, glazed and set within a birds eye walnut frame, 63 x 57 cm.

An early 19th Century fine needlework sampler, worked by Mary Hope, aged 10 years, dated 1801, with verse above a cellular border and an undulating leaf tendril, including strawberries and a carnation, with an exotic bird perched on a tree branch within a hillocky landscape of trees, deer, flowering sprigs and shrubs, all contained within an undulating strawberry border, worked in coloured silks and threads in cross, long and short stitches on a cream canvas ground, approx 51.5cm x 31cm, within a gilt frame.
An early 19th Century needlework sampler, worked by Mary Baldwin, dated May 26th 1802, the design with birds perched on a descriptive plaque and above a stylized garden, containing a red brick Georgian house surrounded by flowering shrubs in baskets and within an undulating floral border, worked in coloured silks and threads on a cream canvas ground, approx 35cm x 28.5cm, within an ebonized frame.
