Remarkable performance from the 493bhp supercharged V8, a folding hardtop, classic looks and outstanding specification. Released in 2002 following five years of development, the R230 series SL Roadster was a high performance luxury convertible produced between 2002 and 2008 representing a harmonious blend of opulence and power. Painstakingly modelled on a state of the art supercomputer which enabled the designers to analyse every curve and line, it looked utterly sensational with an air of barely contained aggression that gave it huge road presence. Packed full of sophisticated electronic driver aids which made it immensely safe but still fun to drive, it was an instant success and is widely considered to be the best-looking Mercedes for many years. It remains an iconic symbol of Mercedes' commitment to combining luxury and performance, appealing to those who seek the best of both worlds in a grand tourer. In late 2003, the stunning SL55 AMG was introduced causing shockwaves in the early-2000s performance car market with near-supercar levels of acceleration and handling, packaged in a comfortable, elegant convertible geared towards touring capability. Seriously powerful and impressively fast, the supercharged 5.4-litre V8 was rated at 493bhp with a stump-pulling 520lbs/ft of torque. The cars were fitted with an uprated 5-speed automatic featuring AMG's 'Speedshift' and there were a number of trim differences including uprated seats and the SL55 sat on a set of striking, multi-spoke AMG alloys.Finished in Capri Blue with contrasting Ash Interior and just two previous keepers, this particular SL55 is in excellent condition throughout boasting an impressive specification that includes heated memory seats, electric windows and mirrors and satellite navigation with Bose sound. On offer due to space being required in an ever-changing Collection, the SL is accompanied by its full book pack, the mandatory two keys and a replacement battery has just been fitted to ensure that the roof mechanism and suspension operate exactly as required. With a low recorded mileage of just under 47,000, the car is running and driving well and is ready to be enjoyed once again. Grand Tourers of this stature and quality provide a high-level of comfort whilst providing sporty performance at the drop of a hat, a very impressive package when you consider the equally impressive guide. Your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to fully appreciate the opportunity on offer.Specification Make: MERCEDES-BENZ Model: SL55 AMG Year: 2003 Chassis Number: WDB2304742F049111 Registration Number: AY03 HJD Transmission: Automatic Engine Number: TBA Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 46976 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Grey LeatherClick here for more details and images
**Saleroom announcement** Please note the paint is Platinum Diamond not Bronze Metallic A rare and sought after right-hand drive UK 3-litre Carrera Sport model with long family ownership - lots of potential! Introduced in September 1975 for the 1976 model year with production only running until 1977, the interesting Carrera 3.0 is rightly regarded as somewhat of a special and rare model amongst the impact-bumper era, 911 model range.Following on after the MFI-engined Carrera 2.7, the 3.0 Carrera heralded the adoption of the newly developed Bosch K-Jetronic CIS fuel-injection engine. This torque-rich, smooth and free-revving 3-litre engine, with a distinctive ‘cam' effect from 4,000rpm, produced 200bhp and was effectively a naturally aspirated version of the 930 Turbo's drivetrain.During its short two year life span, only 3,687 cars were built - a tiny amount compared to nearly 58,000 911 SCs and 76,500 3.2 Carreras produced. Of these, 2,564 were Coupés and 1,123 were Targas with only around 1,064 Coupés being manufactured in right-hand drive. Very few right-hand drive cars reached the UK and with just a two-year production run, only 121 Carrera 3.0 Coupés are verified by their chassis numbers with Porsche Club GB.Have a read of this article from Porsche experts Elferspot about the 3.0 Carrera: https://www.elferspot.com/en/magazin/buyers-guide-porsche-911-carrera-3-0/The car presented here is a 1977 Porsche 911 3.0 Carrera Sport Coupé in distinctive Bronze Metallic, a special-order paint, over a tan and tartan interior with original Recaro sports seats. It's a UK-supplied, 5-speed, matching-numbers car and was specified with electric windows and sunroof. This striking sports-car was originally supplied on 7th February 1977 via Official Porsche Centre Parker & Parker Ltd of Longpool, Kendal in Cumbria, and sold to a customer in Blackburn. It then passed through a few owners, before being bought in October 1982 by Mr Edwards of Pockley, York; he subsequently sold it, in September 1983, to our vendor’s father (but registered the car in his wife’s name); remarkably, it has been in the care of his family ever since (ownership passing to our vendor in 2014). By 2013 and due in part to the father’s declining health, the car had slumbered for several years in the garage of the family home. It an attempt to get the car ‘back on its feet’, father and son instructed Porsche specialists, Gantspeed Engineering Ltd, to carry out an extensive mechanical refurbishment. This included an engine rebuild (which retains its distinctive 5-blade cooling fan, as opposed to the newer 11-blade version), transmission overhaul and other work, totalling some £35,000 (invoices in file). The car was driven and enjoyed after being run-in but, due to other commitments, it ended up back in the garage, where it again has sat unused for a number of years. Whilst being worked on, the sills, floors and kidney bowls were all inspected and deemed in good shape, but the paintwork (believed to be original) is in need of some TLC, plus some areas of the trim likewise (the missing Porsche bonnet badge does come with the car though). With much originality throughout, the factory interior has held up especially well, indeed, with a bit of attention and expenditure, this could quite easily be a top-top 3.0, with long diligent ownership, much paperwork and its original book pack (mislaid at the time of writing) to accompany it.As one of the rarest UK-market production Porsches, this wholesome example represents good value against the 930 Turbo and is the smart choice for those who respect history, rarity and originality.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 3.0 CARRERA SPORT COUPÉYear: 1977Chassis Number: 9117600619Registration Number: VEC 84RTransmission: Manual Engine Number: 6670828 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 76528 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

Rembrandt Harmensz Van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669) The Angel Departing from the House of Tobit (B. Holl. 43; H 185) Original etching. 3rd state of IV. A late 17th century impression, signed and dated 1641 on plate. Measures approx. 15cm x 10cm. During the year 1641, Rembrandt made several etchings involving biblical subjects. The style he used at this time broke new ground for him in that the lines and spaces pointed to a far more liberated technique. The idea of finishing the etching as if a painting was discarded by the artist and a completely new effect was found by the means of more agitated lines. In this etching Rembrandt created the idea of a very active and dramatic moment. This has been achieved by the shading surrounding the central group being set at angles to each other. The flow of the composition is thereby naturally broken up. The flight of the angel across the face of the control group leaving a path from bottom left to top right completes this effect. The theme of the etching had been drawn from the Old Testament Book of Tobit. Tobit had been punished for acts of charity towards his own countrymen and was made blind by his grief for being scared to continue those acts after he had incurred the wrath of the local kings. Tobias, his son, was sent to collect money from a distant relative and the Lord sent an angel to guide him. Through his journeys the Angel helps Tobias and returns to Tobit. When the old man meets them at the door, Tobias restores Tobit's sight by means of gall which the Angel had told him to keep. The Angel then tells Tobit that his good works in the town and his courage in the face of the wrath of the kings has caused him to be healed. The family give thanks to the Lord and the Angel departs. Rembrandt chose this last moment to depict Tobit kneeling with his wife Sarah behind him. Tobias kneels in the centre of the group with his head inclined towards the departing Angel. It was a familiar subject in Dutch art. Rembrandt's master. Pieter Lastman had painted it, also Hercules Seghers had painted Tobias and the Angel. Rembrandt had etched Tobit as a blind man some years before and had made several paintings of Tobit and Anna. It was his Old Testament work which made Rembrandt so divorced from commercial success in the decades of the 1640s. In fact, it remains some of his greatest work. Rembrandt's oil painting of the same subject matter (The Archangel Raphael Leaving Tobias' Family, 1637) is kept in the Louvre Museum, Paris. Provenance: Acquired by current owner at Faustus Galleries, Jermyn Street London on 1st September 1975. Original sales invoice present. Revaluation letter from Faustus Galleries as at 21-07-1977 present. All correspondence letters between current owner and gallery regarding a Rembrandt exhibition organised in Geneve in 1978 present, with also original catalogue of the exhibition.

EVIL DEAD II (1987) - Stunt Necronomicon Ex-Mortis - A stunt Necronomicon Ex-Mortis from Sam Raimi's Evil Dead II. Archaeologist Raymond Knowby (John Peaks) discovered the ancient book known as the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis or "Book of the Dead" with his family, began to study it, and made recordings of reciting the passages, which unleashed the evil force of the Kandarian Demon. Created by horror and science-fiction writer H.P. Lovecraft for the 1924 short story The Hound, the Necronomicon was featured in all three films of the original Evil Dead trilogy. According to Brian Rae, who made this stunt book in 1986 for the second film along with Tom Sullivan and extensively detailed its use in the accompanying Letter of Authenticity, this specific book was notably featured in the flashback scene in which Knowby first came upon the book in an ancient tomb, completely covered in dust and dirt from being untouched for centuries. This book still retains some of that original dust and fuller's earth it was covered in for that scene. This Necronomicon also had cameos in Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) and Pumpkinhead II: Bloodwings (1994), with details in the distressing of the cover and ripped pages screen-matching this exact prop to close-ups in Jason Goes to Hell.Evil Dead II, the higher-budget horror-comedy sequel to Raimi's cult classic horror film The Evil Dead, launched the careers of director Raimi and star Bruce Campbell, solidifying their status as horror legends. The sequel introduced a number of the franchise's most celebrated elements, including Ash Williams' (Campbell) stump-mounted chainsaw hand and a redesign of the Necronomicon that many fans consider to be its most memorable and iconic iteration. This stunt Necronomicon Ex-Mortis is believed to be the first Evil Dead II Necronomicon to ever be offered at auction. This stunt book is composed of a slip latex cover cast and assembled by Sullivan and Rae from a mold made of an original sculpture by Sullivan, over a cardboard inner cover with a paper, white glue, and Celluclay binding. The cover's iconic face has two eyes, a small nose, and a gaping mouth. Painted in various shades of brown and black, it is filled with 18 pages of parchment-color copy paper that were distressed by production by soaking in tea, dipping them in lemon juice, drying them out, and burning them along the edges. The pages are first-generation photocopies of illustrations Sullivan created for the first film, as well as several new ones he made for the second film. These black-and-white photocopied pages identify this as one of only three or four stunt books made for the production in addition to two hand-painted versions.Following production, the pages of this book underwent sympathetic restoration by a professional art conservator to stabilize them and prevent further brittleness. The restoration included consolidating areas of detached pages using cooked wheat starch and Japanese paper, reattaching lost corners with paper splints, inpainting areas of the Japanese paper using Winsor & Newton watercolors, and reattaching four pages along the binding edge using cooked white starch paste. In addition to the intentional distressing from production to make it appear old and covered in grime, this Necronomicon exhibits fragility in the binding, slip latex, and paper, and should be handled with care. Dimensions: 8" x 10" x 2" (20.25 cm x 25.5 cm x 5 cm)Sold without copyright; see notice in the Buyer's Guide.Additional Provenance: An extensively-detailed handwritten Letter of Authenticity from Brian Rae discussing the creation of the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis props for the film and the use of this specific book in the film and subsequent films.Estimate: $80,000 - 160,000Bidding for this lot will end on Thursday, August 15th. The auction will begin at 9:30AM PDT and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace.
