Assassinated. Signed colour 5 x 7.5 photograph of Gaddafi in a close-up head and shoulders pose. Neatly housed within the original 8vo still folding card presentation folder bearing the logo of the Socialist People´s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, a Declaration of the Establishment of the Authority of the People, and several quotations taken from The Green Book. Allegros manufactured at the British Leyland factory in Longbridge, Birmingham, were sent to the Vanden Plas factory in Kingsbury, North London, to be mechanically checked and then fitted with a luxurious interior featuring leather seats, wall to wall carpeting, a walnut dashboard and walnut picnic tables. They also featured a new bonnet panel allowing for a prominent chrome grille. BL's marketing suits went to great lengths to distinguish the Vanden Plas models from the rest of the Allegro range, never badging or referring to them as Allegros.Manufactured in 1978, ‘YEV 302S’ was registered on the 30th March that year, being supplied new via Braintree Motor Company. Retained in first ownership for almost exactly a year, the Vanden Plas transferred to the second owner in 1979, with this lady owner retaining the Vanden Plas for over thirty years, until 2010. Finished in White paintwork with a Black finishing line, ‘YEV 302S’ is complemented by Brown interior upholstery which is understood to be pleasingly highly original, as well as boasting the rear window dealer sticker and original dealer number plates, which are of course BL/Unipart items. Offered now having just c.56,000 recorded and believed genuine miles and only five former keepers, the Vanden Plas presents nicely throughout.Starting readily and running well during the recent photography session, it certainly appears to be well-maintained, indeed, the 1500 was last serviced at 51,559 miles. Offered with a large history file that comprises the book pack in a British Leyland wallet (including product guide and handbook), original sales literature, ownership history, numerous previous MOTs supporting the mileage, a large collection of invoices for work and servicing, old tax discs and a current V5C document, the 1500 also benefits from a stainless steel exhaust, a matching set of radial tyres and the original jack. Also represented here is the abolitionist Thomas Clarkson, with an exposition on how he came to the abolitionist movement, and letters on more domestic matters, one regarding the viewing of Ravenswood in Melrose being sold by a cousin of Sir Walter Scott ('...The situation is delightful... The price asked by Mr Scott for the whole house, furniture, plate, land etc was six thousand eight hundred pounds...').The letters are addressed predominantly to members of the Swinton, Davidson and Murray families and have been retained by the family until now. A note by George Swinton, dated 22 April 1931, and written in ink on the last leaf of the album explains the genesis of this fine collection and the interconnection between these families: '...It was sent to me a week ago by my cousin Edith Davidson... There are two other volumes, one of letters of Ecclesiastics, the other of Statesmen. These she has kept. This one she sent me as a present. She is rather vague as to when the autographs were put into the books – probably some twenty-five years ago – and even vaguer as to how they were collected... The collection really begins with the six letters of Sir Walter Scott, most of which were written to our mutual grandfather John Swinton... a great many of them seem to have passed through the hand of old John Murray, the publisher... The Murrays were old family friends of both the Swintons and the Davidsons... Quite probably there were many others, thrown away...'. A typed letter from John Swinton dated September 2001 also accompanying the album explains further: '...Many of the letters have Swinton connections, like that of Thomas Brown which is written to my g.g.g.grandfather's sister, and he [his grandfather George Swinton] came to the conclusion that those that had not been collected by Randall himself were collected by his mother...'. The abbreviated Latin legend on the obverse translates as "Victoria by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."Gouby notes at his time of writing in the “British Bronze Penny” that only two examples of this coin are known and only in circulated condition, this coin being the one that he uses to illustrate the variety in the book and the value of the other previously sold example id quoted in the price guide at over £22,000. JOHN LENNON - John Lennon's First Ever Vox Amp - Fawn JMI Vox AC15 Twin - A 1962 Fawn JMI Vox AC15 Twin amplifier used and owned by John Lennon during his time in The Beatles. Lennon purchased this amp in 1962 and it was the first-ever Vox amp he used as part of The Fab Four. It is arguably one of the most significant Beatles and Lennon artefacts to come to market. It was the catalyst in forming the early tone and sound of one of The Beatles, considered one of the most influential bands of all time. The amp was used in many early live performances as well as the recording of The Beatles first album Please, Please Me recorded at Abbey Road studios. The history of this item was recently covered in a comprehensive article by Guitar World.When Brian Epstein became The Beatles' manager, he decided to completely overhaul their public image, including upgrading the equipment they used to perform. Lennon and Epstein visited Hessy's Music in Liverpool and hire-purchased a Fawn Vox AC15 Twin amp in July 1962 for £123, making four payments over the next few months. A scan of the original hire-purchase agreement can be seen on page 572 of the book Vox Amplifiers: The JMI Years by Jim Elyea. On the agreement, the amp's serial number was incorrectly noted as "1583" when, at that time, the serial numbers would have been in the 4000 range, so it was actually "4583". George Harrison also acquired a Vox Fawn AC30 Twin amp around the same time. Lennon can be seen using the amplifier extensively during the early days of The Beatles' rise to fame, including the only known film footage of them performing at the world famous Cavern Club, Liverpool on August 22 1962, four days after their newly appointed drummer, Ringo Starr had joined the band. This was the birth of what we now know as the legendary Fab Four. As well as many early live performances, the amp can be seen at the Abbey Road studios during the recording of the album Please Please Me in which Lennon's distinct Vox guitar tone can be heard on such tracks as "Love Me Do", "Please, Please Me", "How Do You Do It?" and P.S. I Love You". Photographs taken by Bill Connell and Les Chadwick on 22 August 1962 document The Beatles rehearsing at the Cavern Club and show the Vox amp being used by Lennon. As Starr officially joined the group four days earlier on 18 August, these may be some of the first images to feature him as part of the band. The amp can also be seen in photos taken during the Please Please Me recording sessions at Abbey Road Studios in Studio 2 which took place in September 1962. In these images, Lennon's Vox AC15 is equipped with chrome stand, as opposed to George Harrison's Vox AC30, which has no stand. As the band's popularity grew and their touring schedule increased, in early 1963 Brian Epstein secured an endorsement deal with Vox for their exclusive use of the brand and in return Vox would supply the band with amplifiers. Recent research shows the original Beatles Fawn amplifiers can be seen being used as late as November 1963 and possibly beyond and were used in conjunction with the new Black amplifiers due to the band's extensive schedules. Notable later performances where these amps can be seen in 1963 include January 31st at Birkenhead, March 7th at Harrogate and November 1963 in Ireland.The amp comprises a pine cabinet with a fawn Rexine exterior. A previous owner of the amp, unaware of its link to Lennon and The Beatles, decided to paint its exterior matt black. This coat of paint has been meticulously removed to expose the amplifiers original Fawn covering, this along with period correct brown diamond-patterned grille-cloth and Goodman Alnico Speakers has restored the amplifier to its original 1962 Lennon, Beatles format. The top side features three leather handles and various controls, including six black pointer knobs and a voltage selector switch. A Vox Amplifier plaque on the back displays the model number "AC15" and the serial number "4358", as mentioned in Vox Amplifiers: The JMI Years. It is powered by an attached UK plug and cable and comes with a single-button Vox foot switch. The lot also includes a contemporary wheeled flight case and a metal tubular stand. The amp's exterior exhibits signs of age, including general scuffing. Some of the Rexine has peeled away, revealing the pine underneath, and there are small holes in the grille-cloth cover. However, the lot remains in remarkable overall condition, considering its age and history. This is an exceptionally rare opportunity to own a key piece of vintage equipment that established the sound of the Beatles. This guitar, described by Gallagher in a 1997 interview as "the best guitar in the world," was made specifically for him by Gibson's custom shop in 1997 and was used extensively during 1997 and 1998 for recordings and live performances. The Florentine was used prominently during the recording of Oasis' third album Be Here Now, released in August 1997. The record became the biggest-selling album of that year, and the fastest-selling album in the UK in 1997. Gallagher subsequently used the guitar on the record-breaking Be Here Now world tour. The Florentine is one of his primary guitars from the Oasis era and is believed to be the most-extensively used and documented Noel Gallagher guitar outside of the artist's personal collection; hundreds of photos exist of Gallagher with this guitar.Other notable use of the Florentine includes a rare solo set for the Tibetan Freedom Concert in New York; a concert at the Oakland Coliseum on 18 June 1997; The David Letterman Show; Saturday Night Live; and the BBC documentary Oasis: Right Here, Right Now. It was also used to record the track "Temper Temper" by Goldie. A 1997 article on Oasis in Spin magazine featured Gallagher singing the guitar's praises directly:"That's the best guitar in the world," says Noel Gallagher. "It's not one of the best guitars, it's the best guitar." The guitar Noel speaks of is his own-a Les Paul Florentine Diamond Sparkle. It sits in its open case like a diamond in a jewel box, and Noel stares down at it lovingly. It's covered in bright silver glitter. The guitar costs $3,590, but you can't buy one. It's custom made. "The thing about that guitar is it's got that extra..You know what I mean? When you've got everything turned all the way up, this one gives you more. It goes to '11'."This guitar, serial number "7 9007", was part of a batch of instruments that Gallagher sold circa 2001 through the New Kings Road Vintage Guitar Emporium. The Les Paul Florentine comprises an ebony fingerboard, a distinctive silver glitter finish on the body, and nickel-plated hardware. Gibson's hallmark five-piece diamond-like pearlescent inlay adorns the black headstock (unique to custom models). It also features two volume knobs, two tone knobs, and a selector switch. A "U" Underworld sticker is adhered under the tailpiece, as placed by Gallagher circa June 1997; Underworld was a company that produced Oasis merchandise in the 1990s.The guitar comes in its original protective case, featuring a white "Oasis" stencil and remnants of a "Metalheadz" sticker on the exterior. Metalheadz was a UK drum and bass record label founded by Goldie and Kemistry & Storm, so the sticker was likely added during the recording of "Temper Temper".The guitar remains in very good condition, with light horizontal cracking to the body's varnish layer and some light wear to the nickel-plated components. There are some residue marks on the "U" sticker where a "Metalheadz" sticker was once placed over the top (sticker was retained and is present in the guitar case.)In 2022, iconic Microdot photographer and designer Brian Cannon, who worked design for the original album, photographed the guitar with a red Matchless amp to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Be Here Now. The guitar was a treasured possession in the previous owner's collection for many years and its history was documented in issue 455 of Guitarist magazine. OASIS - Noel Gallagher's Owned and Autographed First Ever Oasis Guitar - Cream Hohner JT60 Played During Early Performances - A cream Hohner JT60 guitar used and owned by Noel Gallagher during his time with iconic British band Oasis. This guitar was originally obtained from Gallagher's personal collection, and was played during his early live performances with the band, making it his first Oasis guitar. This is an incredibly rare opportunity to own such an important piece of the band's history.Photographs of Gallagher playing a Hohner JT60 guitar can be found in the book Brothers: From Childhood to Oasis - The Real Story by Paul Gallagher, published by Virgin Books (a copy is included in the lot). They depict him on stage at the Middleton Hippodrome in 1992, and at Manchester's 'In The City' festival at The Venue in the same year. The guitar comprises a maple neck and a maple body, which is finished in ivory and features a tortoiseshell-style pickguard. The instrument has three pickups, a volume control knob, two tone-control knobs, and a three-way pickup switch. The serial number "C104188" is located on a metal plate on the body's rear, and Gallagher has autographed the back of the headstock in black marker pen. His original strings are still on the guitar. The lot also includes an Epiphone Riviera hard case, which features the famous Oasis stencil in multiple colours, and a sticker on which "Hohner JT-8 White NG 1st" is handwritten in blue marker pen. The case also includes several packs of spare strings. The guitar exhibits a minor crack at the bottom left corner of the body's face, and the hooks of the case's two bottom latches are missing.
