NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS (2007) - Production-Made President's (Bruce Greenwood) "Book of Secrets" - A production-made President's (Bruce Greenwood) "Book of Secrets" from Jon Turteltaub's National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage), Abigail Chase (Diane Kruger), and Riley Poole (Justin Bartha) found the Book of Secrets in the Library of Congress and used it to guide them to Mount Rushmore and the hidden City of Gold.Created by book designer Ross MacDonald based on extensive research, the leatherbound book features printed pages full of historical details and conspiracies, including the Kennedy assassination and Area 51. It includes maps and photographs, including one of the missing planks from the Resolute Desk. It is intentionally distressed to appear old, stained, and well-used, and is held closed with leather cord. Included is a hardcover copy of MacDonald's "Prop Man" featuring MacDonald's works, including the book, autographed by MacDonald in black ink. This book was created by production as a back-up, kept on stand-by in case the copies being used on set were lost or damaged, and varies from those made as gifts, as these original master copies were each hand-altered to coincide with the script and final screening, whereas gift versions were full printed copies. THE MUMMY (1999) - Functional Hero Golden Book of the Living - A functional hero Golden Book of the Living from Stephen Sommers' action adventure The Mummy. The Golden Book of the Living was one of two prominent Ancient Egyptian artefacts to feature in the film, the other being the Book of the Dead. Also known as the Golden Book of Amun-Ra, it was discovered under a statue of Horus in Hamunaptra by Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser), Jonathan Carnahan (John Hannah) and Ardeth Bay (Oded Fehr), and was later used by Jonathan and Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) to make the nefarious Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) mortal. The heavy book is primarily made of resin finished in gold paint to resemble solid gold, and features several intentionally tarnished bronze components. Intricately decorated, the front cover features sporadic curved lines, an Egyptian hieroglyph insignia on the left side, and raised scarab beetle emblems. It also features a large moving, circular resin lock section, which is finished in shades of faux bronze and displays an embedded sun-shaped emblem, where a key would have been inserted. The book's embellished metal spine displays 12 individual strands attached to each internal page. Designed to hold the front cover in place, four metal vulture-like clasps are inserted into the scarab emblems and are adjoined to uniquely designed hinges. Located within the book are 12 resin tablet pages covered in ornate hieroglyph detailing. To open the book, the circular mechanical emblem on the cover must be twisted in an anticlockwise direction, which causes the two clasps on the right side to pop up. To close the book, the two clasps should be pushed down into their corresponding slots and held. The emblem should then be turned clockwise, causing the locks to fix back into place.Intentionally distressed for the production, there are some small chips on the cover. Dimensions: 14.5" x 14.5" x 4.75" (37 cm x 37 cm x 12 cm)Contains mechanical components; see mechanical notice in the Buyer's Guide.Estimate: $50,000 - 100,000Bidding for this lot will end on Tuesday, March 12th. China.- Karns (Maurine) & Pat Patterson. Shanghai: High Lights Low Lights Tael Lights, first edition, frontispiece, illustrations, illustrated endpapers, partially erased pencil notes to title, original pictorial boards, spine stitched in Japanese fashion, stitching renewed, fractional rubbing, 8vo, Shanghai, The Tridon Press, April 1936. *** An irreverent and somewhat provocative, not quite a guide book, to life in Shanghai. In the introduction the authors say, "We have, however, tried to portray the Shanghai scene. Not a minute, detailed, factual panorama of the Whangpoo town. No temples, nor statistics nor dynasty dates. Just a sort of composite of what Shanghai looks like, and feels like and smells like after, say, the third whiskey-soda, when, as Shakespeare or somebody said, the senses are sharpest."

[Ray, John]. Catalogus plantarum circa Cantabrigiam nascentium [-Index plantarum agri Cantabrigiensis], 2 parts in 1 volume, 1st edition, 2nd issue, London: Jo. Martin, Ja. Allestry, Tho. Dicas, 1660, cancel title with London imprint printed in red and black (with inked out signature to upper blank margin), woodcut device to final leaf with manuscript note to verso regarding the title pages of the 1660 edition, browning, occasional light damp-staining to initial leaves, 19th-century inscription to front flyleaf 'Wm. Kirby the gift of Revett, Sheppard' (the name Revett Sheppard ink stamped within oval border surround, early 19th-century half calf, upper joint split, lower joint cracked, extremities worn, small 8voQTY: (1)NOTE:Keynes 2; Wing R383A.A scarce example with the cancel title-page bearing the London imprint. 'Ray's first essay in scientific botany, though not without faults, was a most remarkable achievement ... a small and unpretentious book ... it has many bibliographical attractions, beginning with two title-pages in black and red carrying a Cambridge imprint. It seems that the first title-page, printed on the second leaf, contained two errors in Latinity, so that it was set up a second time and imposed on the first leaf originally intended to be a blank. The binder should then have cancelled the second leaf with the incorrect title, but his imperfect scholarship was an erratic guide, with the result that sometimes one title-page was cancelled, sometimes the other, or, occasionally, neither. ... The book was printed at Cambridge by John Field. ... According to Ray's friend, John Worthington, Master of Jesus College, the whole impression was bought by another London bookseller, James Allestry, and his partners, but this cannot be true, for although the book is occasionally found with a cancel title-page bearing the London imprint of John Martin..., this form of title-page is rare compared with the Cambridge imprint. Only four copies of the London issue are recorded below as compared with eighteen of the Cambridge issue. More probably only the smaller part of the edition was transferred, and if any copies remained in Allestry's shop in St. Paul's Churchyard in 1666 they would probably have been destroyed in the Great Fire. Also the interest of the book was largely local, and it is likely to have found a readier sale in Cambridge than in London' (Keynes, pages 1-2).

An interesting World Cup 1966 scrap book, beautifully backed with mirrored World Cup Willie caricatures, a hand-made Jules Rimet trophy and various competition stickers on the front cover with a large number of 4d and 6d stamps on the back with a centrally mounted official circular plastic England mascot piece with the folios having press reports for tournament group stage games up to and including the Final, many of which have been hand coloured by its curator, accompanied by a copy of the Daily Express celebratory magazine covering England's legendary victory over West Germany and a copy of the Evening Standard World Cup Special guide by Bernard Joy with the scrapbook being tied together with a red, white and blue ribbon. The scrapbook is in lovely condition with signs of age related wear with the magazine being in generally poor condition with folds and tears and the Guide having the pages separated from the cover and the scores of each game written in pen on the inside page. The scrapbook is a real labour of love and a fascinating look into the build up to what is arguably thus far England's finest hour through the eyes of a fan in 1966.
