THE HAMLYN GUIDE TO FOOTBALL COLLECTABLES Interesting book!

Lot 257

A C16 UK-market car in a great specification, with the usability of Tiptronic S, a matching hardtop and an excellent service history - superb value given its mighty 414bhp ‘Mezger’ 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged engine. When the 996 was launched, it was greeted with almost universal praise and heralded by most people who knew what they were talking about as the best-sorted and most usable 911 that had ever carried the badge. Richard Hammond was effusive about the 996, describing it as 'visceral and exciting'. Tiff Needell said it was 'better in almost every way' than the 993, offering a driving experience that was 'second to none'.Launched in 2000, the 996 Turbo offered genuine supercar performance in a compact and practical package. Arriving with four-wheel drive as standard, a water-cooled engine, a smooth new bodyshell and a radically updated cabin, the new 996 Turbo was a thoroughly sophisticated, all-weather, competent supercar and although it went out of production in 2005, in real terms, it's still as quick as anything on the road. The 996 Turbo Cabriolet was introduced for the 2004 model year which was the first mass-produced Turbo Cabriolet model since the 1989 930 Turbo Cabriolet.Mid-range punch is the 996 Turbo's party trick, and while 420bhp might not be a headline power figure today, it still feels seriously rapid, with instant thrust that ensures you are pressed against the back of the seat and a flow of power that feels almost linear. The chassis and brakes are a perfect match for the engine's performance, whilst the ride is taut but retains enough suppleness for long journeys to remain comfortable. With four-wheel drive and the engine slung out the back, both grip and traction are incredibly strong, promoting a feeling of confidence that can border on invincibility!Delivered new by Porsche JCT600/Brooklands of Leeds in November 2003, this discerningly specified 2003 Porsche 911 (996) Turbo Cabriolet is fitted with the effortless-to-use 5-speed Tiptroinc S gearbox and is finished in Midnight Blue Metallic paintwork with a full leather interior with Aluminium interior accents. The car is supplied with it's original and complete book-pack (including its stamped-up service booklet), a full set of keys, a history folder (including numerous invoices) and matching hardtop. It was owned by our vendor’s close friend, an avid car enthusiast/collector, for the last 16 years, and has been dutifully maintained and garage-stored.Offered at a very realistic guide, with 50,000 miles covered (which equates to just 2,500 miles per annum), this Porsche 911 996 Turbo looks like 'small change' in comparison to its earlier 993 counterparts.Specification Make: PORSCHE Model: 911 996 TURBO CABRIOLET TIPTRONIC S Year: 2003 Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ99Z4S670378 Registration Number: V88 PML Transmission: Tiptronic S Engine Number: 64401664 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 50650 Miles Make: RHDClick here for more details and images

HACIENDA - Limited Edition Custom-built Bass GuitarA limited edition bass guitar known as "the Hac 51 model", constructed from pieces of Manchester's Haçienda nightclub. The Haçienda became famous during the rave scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s, when it was primarily funded by the band New Order and their label Factory Records. After escalating debts, it lost its licence in June 1997 and was demolished in 2002. When this happened, the club's maple dance floor was mostly scrapped. However, some pieces were salvaged by a band that rehearsed upstairs in the same building, who stored them in a garden shed. In 2010, the publisher of The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club, written by New Order co-founder and bassist Peter Hook, suggested including some of these floor pieces with special editions of the book. Music archivist Chris Hewitt - who has worked with Hook on and off for the last 40 years - tracked them down, and it occurred to him that they could also be used to create fretboards on guitars. After discussing the idea with Hook, Hewitt commissioned guitar builder Brian Eastwood to create 10 custom bass guitars using the pieces as fretboards. The instrument comprises a headstock formed into the shape of the Haçienda dancefloor; a neck with a fretboard made from the maple dance floor; and a yellow-and-black striped body, representing the Ben Kelly-designed nightclub's iconic chevrons. Metal checker-plate pieces decorate the headstock and back of the body, in reference to the club's staircases. This particular guitar also has a piece of the original granite bar top incorporated into its body. Additionally, what are normally f-holes on a hollow-body guitar have been changed to "5" and "1"-shaped holes, representing FAC 51, the catalogue number issued to the Haçienda by Factory Records. The guitar comes in a protective flight case with black faux-fur lining, and the neck exhibits markings from its time as part of a dance floor. This lot comes from the personal collection of Chris Hewitt, noted audio archaeologist and author of several books on vintage sound equipment. Dimensions (guitar): 118 cm x 41 cm x 7 cm (46 1/2" x 16 1/4" x 2 3/4")Contains electronics; see electronics notice in the Buyer's Guide.Estimate: £5,000 - 10,000 M Bidding for this lot will end on Friday, November 10th. During the late Ming dynasty, however, against a background of social change and economic prosperity, some women managed to challenge these conventions. The famous late Ming philosopher Li Zhi (1527-1602) even declared in his ironically titled Book to be Burned that women were equally intelligent to men and took female students, much to general surprise. Celebrity courtesans accomplished in the genteel arts of music and literature entered male society, heralding a new model of feminine identity almost equal to the male literati. By The Kangxi reign, emerged a new ideal of accomplished females; see S.McCausland and Lizhong Ling, Telling Images of China: Narrative and Figure Paintings 15th-20th Century from the Shanghai Museum, London, 2010, pp.65-67. A Chinese Ru-ware Bowl. Song Dynasty. Dimensions: Diameter 5 5/8 inches, Height 1 3/8 inches (14.5 cm x 3.5 cm). Sakamoto Goro (1923 - August 15, 2016) was a globally renowned Japanese antique art dealer and the founder of the antique art store Buyantang. He became famous for selling a Chinese Yuan Dynasty Blue and White Porcelain Jar for approximately 176 million Japanese yen at a Sotheby's auction held in London in 1972. He was actively involved in auctions at houses like Sotheby's and Christie's and set several records for the sale of Asian artworks, bringing numerous exquisite art pieces back to Buyantang. In April 1999, Sakamoto Goro acquired a Ming Chenghua Doucai Chicken Cup at a Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong for 29.17 million Hong Kong dollars, setting a record as one of the highest-priced items in the auction market for ancient Chinese porcelain. Sakamoto Goro made several significant donations of Chinese ceramics, bronzes, and other artifacts to institutions such as the Tokyo National Museum, Nara National Museum, National Museum of China, and the National Palace Museum in Taipei. He often collaborated with institutions like the Tokyo National Museum and Nara National Museum for exhibitions, sharing his extensive collection of fine art with the public through museums. An example of this is the Cizhou Kiln White Glaze Basin he donated to the National Palace Museum, which was exhibited at the Tokyo National Museum in 1961 and the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts in 1978. After these artworks were returned to Buyantang, Sakamoto Goro retained the temporary labels they used during their museum displays. The items being auctioned in this event are from Sakamoto Goro's personal collection, which our auction house diligently collected from a close friend of Sakamoto Goro in Tokyo, Japan. Some of the items in this auction are extensively documented in a beautiful illustrated book titled Illustrated Guide to Chinese Ceramics from Buyantang, which includes detailed descriptions of patterns, dimensions, and bears the Buyantang seal. Some of the ceramics mentioned in this book were previously exhibited at the National Museums, and the labels from these exhibitions are still preserved within the book. A Chinese Ru-ware Bowl. Song Dynasty. Dimensions: Width 7 inches, Height 2 1/8 inches (18 cm x 5.5 cm).
