Dinky Austin A40 Van "Omnisport" (470) Believed to be a South American promotional issue that was drawn by Meccano during 1954 (Ramsays Price Guide) 1957 (Mike & Sue Richardson book) It is generally thought that it was never put into production, but this example has recently come to light. The van is in the correct light blue that was assigned to the model and the text on the sides "Omnisport Todo Para El Deporte" is printed on to production standard (not decals). The base is a standard Dinky item with a normal production crackle finish and has a correct Dinky rivet (untouched). The standard ridged wheels, also in light blue, are fitted with the later style treaded tyres, indicating that the later date of 1957 is probably correct. Note: The original owner spent much of his working life overseas, including some time in Central/South America. Therefore it is possible it was obtained in that area.
