Vale Press.- Ricketts (Charles) A Bibliography of the Books issued by Hacon & Ricketts, one of 250 copies on paper, printed in red and black, wood-engraved frontispiece by Charles Ricketts after C.H.Shannon and decorative border, light foxing, Charles Home McCall's copy with 2 A.Pcs. (one signed) concerning a catalogue of Whistler's Nocturnes printed by the Ballantyne press loosely inserted, original cloth-backed boards, paper labels to upper cover and spine, spine label chipped, 1904 § Wordsworth (William) Poems..., one of 310 copies, wood-engraved illustrations by T.Sturge Moore, a few pencil markings, original white buckram, soiled, 1902 § Suckling (Sir John) The Poems, edited by John Gray, one of 310 copies, wood-engraved border and initials by Charles Ricketts, original patterned-paper boards, 1896, uncut, all a little rubbed, [Watry B46, B37 & B3], 8vo, printed at the Ballantyne Press [for the Vale Press] (3)⁂ Charles Home McCall was the son of Charles McCall, the manager and printer of the Ballantyne Press and an important influence and guide to Charles Ricketts. Charles Home McCall joined his father at the press in 1893. At the end of the introduction to the bibliography Ricketts pays tribute to the McCalls: "My books would not have achieved that measure of technical success in 'build' and presswork had I not benefitted by the untiring energy and the intelligent sympathy of Mr. Charles McCall and of his son, C.Home McCall...". pp.xvii-xviii.Charles Home McCall's notes on the Whistler catalogue in the first mentioned list the various editions printed. Obviously the notes were originally placed inside a copy of the book: "This is the very rare first edition of the Catalogue..." which consisted of 250 copies but was destroyed "because Whistler was dissatisfied". An additional note in red ink by McCall's son Robin states that, "The Catalogue to which this refers was never found in C.H.Mc's papers...".

Fiumara, 'A painter hidden: John Roddam Spencer Stanhope: his life, hiswork, his friends: the British period, 1829-1880', PhD, University of Messina,1993, p. 373.The Vision of Ezekiel was one of two works that Stanhope exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1902, having not exhibited there for three decades. Ezekiel was one of the four so-called 'greater prophets' of the Old Testament, the others being Isaiah, Jeremiah and Daniel. He was among the Hebrews exiled in 579 BC to Babylon, where, beside the river Kebar, he experienced a number of apocalyptic visions. In Chapter 37 of his book he describes how, 'the hand of the Lord' being upon him, he is set down in a valley full of dry bones. He is commanded by God to prophesy and the bones come to life, assuming flesh and sinews until they represent 'an exceeding great army'. The passage was often seen as an Old Testament prefiguration of the general resurrection of the dead at the Last Judgement. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * TP* VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium.TP Lot will be moved to an offsite storage location (Cadogan Tate, Auction House Services, 241 Acton Lane, London NW10 7NP, UK) and will only be available for collection from this location at the date stated in the catalogue. 1992 Mercedes-Benz 200TE Transmission: automaticMileage:87000The Mercedes-Benz 124 series is a range of mid-size cars made from 1984 to 1997. The range included numerous body configurations, and although collectively referred to as the W-124, official internal chassis designations varied by body style; saloon (W 124). From 1993, the 124 series was officially marketed as the E-Class.This automatic example of the W124 200TE is presented in blue coachwork with matching blue trim. It features two-fold-away seats in the boot making this a practical, occasional seven seater. A three-owner example for which the second owner, who’s initials are on the cherished plated which is included with the sale, owned it for over 20 years. The original sales invoice is present in the history file, this is coupled to the original book pack and lots of invoices following a detailed service history which includes 14 main dealer stamps until 2004 and several services invoiced thereafter, this includes a head gasket replacement by Mercedes-Benz in 2008. In 2013 this example was categorised a category D insurance loss due to a repair that the insurer decided not to complete, however the then owner considered the car too good not to repair and return to the road. Since then a new water pump, new brake pipes and engine mounts have all been seen to. The car also benefits from an MoT test certificate valid until September 2022. Space has dictated the need for a new keeper for this lovely example of the fantastically reliable W124 which is equally capable now as it was in 1993.Guide Price £6,000 - £10,000Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.

Literature:G. Baker, The History and Antiquities of the County of Northampton, Vol. 2, London, 1836-41, p. 114.Sir George Sitwell, A brief history of Weston Hall, Northamptonshire, and of the families that possessed it, London, privately printed 1927, p. 5, f/n 1, pp. 15-16.F. Sitwell, Weston Hall, Towcester, Northamptonshire: A Brief Guide, Northampton, 1993, p. 6, recorded on the Main Stairs.Catalogue Note:This portrait shows Anne, Lady Blencowe (née Wallis, 1656-1718), the eldest daughter of John Wallis (1616-1703), Savilian professor of geometry at the University of Oxford, wife to Sir John Blencowe (1642-1726) of Marston St Lawrence, and mother of Mrs Susanna Jennens (1688-1760) of Weston Hall. Due to the depiction of orange blossom it was probably painted on her engagement in 1675 to Sir John, a barrister at the Inner Temple, who she married in December the same year. By family tradition, this portrait was formerly at Marston St. Lawrence (Sir George Sitwell, A brief history of Weston Hall, Northamptonshire, and of the families that possessed it, London, privately printed 1927, p. 5, f/n 1). Lady Anne's father set great store by learning, and it is believed that he provided his daughter with a good education. She is best known for her recipe book dated 1694, which provides an excellent sample of dishes established as staples among gentry in the second half of the seventeenth century (ibid., pp. 27-29). This recipe book was added to by successive female owners of Weston Hall, and remained in use there for at least 100 years. It was later published in 1925 in a limited edition of 650 copies by Guy Chapman, a former freelance editor, who had set up the Adelphi Press.
