Joad, Vera Brittain, Laurence Housman (agreeing to give a talk on pacifism and asking if the audiences are 'mainly of the converted, or the unconverted?', 1937), Wilfred Wellock, H. W. 'Bunny' Austin (declining an invitation to speak, 'much as I would like to have a finger in every pie that is working for peace!', 1938), Anna Ruth Fry, George Lansbury, Sybil Morrison, Max Plowman etc. Most of the letters are written to Sydney Larcombe of the City of London group of The Peace Pledge Union and concern speaking and lecture engagements for the Union's public lunch-hour meetings. The album also includes various drawings and verse etc., by family and friends of the collector, most dated in the 1920s. G The Peace Pledge Union is a British pacifist non-Governmental organisation which was formed in 1934. Its members work for a world without war and promote peaceful and non-violent solutions to conflict.
