220. 1919 SUN VITESSE 2 STROKE First registered in 1921 Registration - SV 8326 Engine No - D84 Frame No - 4812G Gear Box - Albion Sun motorcycles were produced between 1911 to 1933 and 1946 to 1961. Starting as a brass foundry and lamp maker before changing their name to the Sun Cycle and Fittings Company. They made frames and frame parts for the bicycle and motorcycle trade as well as a few complete motorcycles for themselves using Precision and then Villiers engines. After WW1 they started working closely with the Valveless Two Stroke Company and used the 269cc Vitesse 2 stroke engine was an advanced design using a disc valve to control induction. Sun later took over this Company and improved the design by using a rotary disc valve in the new 247cc Sun Vitesse. In 1921 Sun entered two of these much faster Sun Vitesse bikes into the Junior TT and finished 10th and 11th in the 250cc class that was running at that time. This rare motorcycle is in the 1991 VMCC Register of Motorcycles Condition - appears complete and although not started for some time, the Vitesse 2 stroke engine turns over freely using the kickstart. Belgian 16 bore side by side pinfire shotgun, serial number 2081 30inch Damascus barrels, deep scroll and leaf engraved rotary underlever forend, scroll trigger guard with horn extension, figured chequered stock carved with a cheek piece. Section 58 (2) Antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification will be required if the lot is to be posted out. 117cm long The gun is in reasonable condition for its age but could do with some polishing / cleaning up to look its best. The exterior of the barrels has some light pitting and surface corrosion, there are some light dents to the right-hand tube. The bores have pitting throughout which would improve with lapping but never fully disappear as it looks quite deep. The actions cock and release with strong springs, the lock up between barrels and action is tight. The stock has two cracks which run from beside the top of each lock up to the top tang, they look to be unrelated and stable. There are some dents and marks to the wood stock and a stain line running from the top tang down the comb of the stock. The toe of the stock has a spliced in repair. The butt plate has some pitting.

The bores are pitted fairly heavily throughout. There are no dents to the barrels but some pitting patches on the outside. There is some wobble between barrels and action body. Both locks work correctly with strong springs. The metalwork generally has some pitting patches. It has been refinished throughout. There are signs of a repair to the wrist where the chequering has been recut. There are two chips to either side of the forend where it meets the action, these have been rounded over to make them look like intentional parts of the gun design. There are small damages to the barrel wedge and escutcheon plates, there is also a small spliced in repair next to one plate. The stock is otherwise free from damages, there are some dents and marks.
