A fine double barrelled 8-Bore Holland and Holland hammer gun, serial no. 8163. 34 inch heavy browned damascus chopper lump barrels, the underside stamped NOT FOR BALL, the top flat engraved HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND STREET LONDON, WINNERS OF ALL THE FIELD RIFLE TRIALS 1883, border engraved rotary underlever action retaing traces of original case colour hardening, border and scroll engraved case colour hardened back action locks signed HOLLAND & HOLLAND, rebounding hammers, the stock with chequered wrist and pistol grip and rubber recoil pad, contained in its original travelling case with maker’s trade label, complete with cleaning rod, weight 15lb. The Makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed in 1884 for a Captain Reid. The case carries a brass escutcheon to the lid engraved with the initials G. A. C. R.
