Overview Mini Landrover with trailer and transportation trailer This little vehicle (designed and built by Roger Dennis from Stafford) is the end result of a design/development study starting with a blank sheet of paper and 4 wheels. It is loosely modelled on the famous Landrover design and is powered by a five and a half horse power petrol engine fitted with both manual and electric start. It is two pedal control – accelerator and foot brake – with automatic centrifugal clutch, and a gear lever for selecting forward, neutral, or reverse (single speed with no intermediate gears) and the brakes operate via a caliper and disc on the rear axle. The steering is of a pseudo rack and pinion type with a centrally pivoted front axle which ensures all 4 wheels maintain contact with the ground when negotiating undulating or rough terrain. The chassis is all welded box section steel tube and the bodywork is aluminium, riveted and welded, and is easily completely detachable for maintenance purposes. It is capable of approximately 20 mph and runs on unleaded fuel.It incorporates working sidelights, headlights, rear lights, winkers and reversing lights and a very loud set of twin horns all powered with a 12 volt . lithium iron battery which is automatically charged by the engine. The panel is fitted with a battery level instrument, a horn push button, a key operated on/off switch (which simulates an ignition switch) and the necessary switches for operating the lights. There is a floor mounted choke control, a separate key operated engine. starter unit, and a conventional handbrake lever.Mini Land Rover TrailerDesigned specifically for being towed by the Mini Landrover and providing rides for kiddies, but is capable of carrying up to two adults and one youngster. Each seat is fitted with a seat belt for safety and the positioning of the seats ensures a low centre of gravity which obviates the possibility of the trailer overturning.A safety chain is attached to the rear of the Landrover and when the trailer is hitched on, it must be in position alongside the towing hitch and the locking pin inserted through the hole in the side of the hitch along with the last link of the chain.A small padlock keeps this pin in position thereby giving the utmost safety against failure of the hitch. The speedometer drive is via a flexible rotary cable operated by a friction drive from the off side rear wheel. The front axle is centrally pivoted in the same manner as the mini Landrover which ensures all 4 wheels maintain contact with ground when traversing undulating or rough terrain. Registration No: SMJ 111W Frame No: 6097191 MOT: NoneA very well maintained Norton RotaryStartright overhauled in 2022Runs superbly and is ready to goAn unusual colour schemeCurrent V5C on fileThe rotary-engined Norton Commander stands as a rare machine in the motorcycle world, with only around 300 units ever produced before the final curtain fell on Norton’s production line due to the Midland Bank shutting down production. With adequate funding, this twin-rotor Wankel-powered machine could have become a benchmark touring motorcycle of its era. Felix Wankel’s ingenious rotary engine design featured a triangular rotor—a marvel of simplicity with remarkably few moving parts. Its high-revving capabilities and near-vibration-free operation made it an engineering marvel. Norton’s version of the rotary engine employed twin rotors, each fed by constant-vacuum SU carburettors. These carburettors drew in the intake charge through a plenum chamber, which served a dual purpose: cooling the engine and optimizing performance. The intake charge first flowed through the finned centre of the rotors, ensuring efficient cooling before igniting the power. This 1989 Norton Rotary Commander has been maintained very well and is a known machine at the famous Startright Company because they extensively overhauled it in 2022, including milling the engine. The Norton has been sparingly used since then but kept in very good order. The unusual colour is reputedly due to a previous owner who worked at a paint shop. The Commander is said to ‘run very well indeed’ and comes with Startright bills and a current V5C. For more information, please contact: Mike Davis mike.davis@handh.co.uk 07718 584217
