Registration No: TDB 454R Frame No: 15369 MOT: ExemptCurrent owner since 2000Owned by a Suzuki enthusiastIt has been running recentlyA V5C is on fileAfter WWII, Japan had a need for cheap reliable transport so Suzuki, like a lot of others around the world, began to produce clip-on engines for pushbikes. These proved to be an immediate success and soon they were making full motorcycles and by the early '60s were second only to Honda in numbers of two-wheelers manufactured. Known for their two strokes, Suzuki were at the forefront of the race to develop the Felix Wankel rotary engine concept releasing the RE5 in 1975, still the world's only mass-produced rotary-engined motorcycle. Whilst a technological masterpiece it was perhaps ahead of its time and only about 5000 were made between 1975 and 1976.This 1977 Suzuki RE5 has been with the late vendor since 2000, the owner being a very enthusiastic Suzuki RE5 enthusiast. He was well known in the club due to the 'New Old Stock' RE5 we also have in the sale. The machine had been used by him at the start of ownership and then placed into short-term storage. We have been advised that it has run recently with no known faults. The RE5 comes with a V5C, however, some recommissioning will be required before placing it back on the road. Registration No: E319 RRP Frame No: JYA52X001GA007211 MOT: NoneGerman import RZ500Bodywork refreshed, otherwise understood to be mostly originalCorrect numbers bike showing c.14,000 milesDisplayed in a home for 2 yearsKnown as the RD500LC (Race Developed 500CC Liquid Cooled motorcycle) in the UK, with some export examples being named the RZ500. The RD500LC used a 50-degree, twin-crankshaft V4 engine layout. Linked Yamaha YPVS exhaust power valves are controlled by a single electronic unit and servo motor and are designed to give a broader power band. The engine also features intake reed valves, unlike the YZR500 racer which used rotary disc valve induction.Understood to be mostly original, this RZ500 is believed to be a correct numbers bike displaying just c.14,000 miles. Since it has been in the UK (it was imported from Germany in 2016), the current owner has had the fairing repainted and the bike checked over, being used sparingly since. In 2019 the Yamaha was subject to a fair amount of engine and clutch and and gearbox work with a receipt on file. There are receipts for parts that were needed at the time. For some 2 years it has been on display in a house, being run from time to time to keep the oil on the internals. Some light recommissioning is required before placing it back on the road. A current V5C and old German paperwork are on file. For more information, please contact: Mike Davis mike.davis@handh.co.uk 07718 584217
Registration No: G672 PRC Frame No: 4189 MOT: None1990 Norton Commander projectIdeal winter projectAll correct numbers machineCurrent V5C on fileThe rotary-engined Norton Commander stands as a rare machine in the motorcycle world, with only around 300 units ever produced before the final curtain fell on Norton’s production line due to the Midland Bank shutting down production. With adequate funding, this twin-rotor Wankel-powered machine could have become a benchmark touring motorcycle of its era. Felix Wankel’s ingenious rotary engine design featured a triangular rotor—a marvel of simplicity with remarkably few moving parts. Its high-revving capabilities and near-vibration-free operation made it an engineering marvel. Norton’s version of the rotary engine employed twin rotors, each fed by constant-vacuum SU carburettors. These carburettors drew in the intake charge through a plenum chamber, which served a dual purpose: cooling the engine and optimising performance. The intake charge first flowed through the finned centre of the rotors, ensuring efficient cooling before igniting the power. This Norton Commander was purchased to restore at some point, but due to too many commitments and other projects, the current vendor has not got around to starting it and has decided it's time to let a new person take it on. Most parts for the restoration are available from suppliers. With the help of Andover Norton in Hampshire, this Commander could be placed back on the road. Sold with some parts (as pictured) and a current V5C. For more information, please contact: Mike Davis mike.davis@handh.co.uk 07718 584217
Registration No: OCN 94L Frame No: VSD1T 0025622 MOT: ExemptBritish registered from new Recently professional overhaul at Disco Dez ScootersVery original with great patinaV5C for immediate useThe Rally also known as the queen of Vespas was a large performance step up from the earlier models of the 1960’s. The 180 versions were well received for their performance and appearance. Only 26,494 were produced before the 200 version which are more common replaced it. Generally based on the previous Super Sport the real star of the rally was its new powerful rotary valve engine. With a larger fuel tank for longer journeys and reduction in the necessary fuel mix down to 2% the Rally 180 really was a major improvement on the previous models. Still with classic lines the Rally is considered to be the last of the ‘real metal’ large engined Vespas before the P-range arrived with its many plastic parts. We understand the the first owner from new was a Wayne Fraser of Newcastle who sold it to an Andrew Brocklehorst who in turn sold it to our vendor recently. However our vendor has also applied for a new V5C in his sons name which will add another owner. There are a number of early tax discs which give some provenance going back to 1977.Mechanically this scooter is very good in our opinion and is in mostly original paint. The chassis number has been partially obscured by some black paint applied by a previous owner which could be removed however luckily the number was photographed before he did that. The MPH speedometer is the original and showing 9687 miles. All keys are present for steering lock, toolbox and ignition. The engine with correct number VSD1M 0025887 has been thoroughly overhauled at Disco Dez Scooters using correct parts throughout. The floor has been replaced at some point but as we agreed with the mechanic at Disco Dez the work has been done really well and it handles on the road as it should. Our consultant was also able to ride it on the road and can confirm that this is so. The scooter has new BGM wheel rims and brand new S83 Michelin tyres. This is a perfect rally going scooter with great looks and a super reliable Rally engine that is running as new. Rally 180s with this original look are very hard to find now. Registration No: Unregistered Frame No: 15229 MOT: ExemptChance of a lifetime to own an 'as new' RE5'New Old Stock', never registered and with 5 'push kilometres'Purchased by the late vendor 30 years agoTotally original and kept in the houseThe Suzuki Motor Co. was established in 1909 by Michio Suzuki to produce machinery for the cotton industry. An initial diversification into 4 wheeled transport was curtailed by WW2 but after the war Japan had a need for cheap reliable transport so Suzuki, like a lot of others around the world, began to produce clip-on engines for pushbikes. These proved to be an immediate success and soon they were making full motorcycles and by the early '60s were second only to Honda in number of two-wheelers manufactured. Known for their two strokes, Suzuki were at the forefront of the race to develop the Felix Wankel rotary engine concept releasing the RE5 in 1975, still the world's only mass-produced rotary-engined motorcycle. Whilst a technological masterpiece it was perhaps ahead of its time and only about 5000 were made between 1975 and 1976.On offer is quite possibly the last 'brand-new' Suzuki RE5 left to come onto the open market and without reserve! This particular RE5 was purchased by the late vendor many years ago and was put straight into the house. The owner was only interested in the Suzuki RE5 range and was regarded as having a great collection of spares and RE5s. The Suzuki is factory stock in every way and has been carefully looked after in his ownership. It is a European spec., originally from France (paperwork on file). The engine turns over with compression and has not had any fluids in it whilst in the vendor's ownership. One for the Suzuki RE5 collector or a museum. Registration No: 874 ALF Frame No: DA21358 MOT: ExemptAttractive original patina Completely renewed LML engineLondon to Brighton participantV5C for immediate useThe Vespa Douglas 152L2 was released in 1959 as Douglas began to source more parts from Piaggio to keep aligned to the changes in scooter style that were coming from Italy. The performance of the 125cc rotary engine was an improvement on the previous 92L2 and the cast handlebars were the signs of a new era in styling for the 1960's.'874 ALF' is an interesting 1961 example having had a brand new unstamped LML engine with a complete rebuild of all new parts to the tune of £1,172 in parts alone. Upon examination of the very many and detailed parts bills (supplied and on file) it is noted that the scooter remains a 125cc scooter, however, one imagines with a greatly improved performance over the original 152L2 engine. This scooter competed in the annual London to Brighton run in 2014. The overall appearance is of an original machine with no touch-ups and a professionally restored original Denfeld (Douglas specified) seat to complement. We have seen the scooter in fine running condition. If someone is looking for a very cool-looking sixties iconic scooter with bags of patina running an ‘as new’ engine with proven learner 125cc capacity they could do far worse than this example. Registration No: Unregistered Frame No: T.B.A MOT: ExemptGenuine Italian built. Verified by the VVC archivistAttractive combinationOriginal accessories The VBA range of Vespas were the immediate successors to the long running ‘handlebar’ scooters of the 1950s and in the UK was the successor to the 152l2 and had cast handlebars like the GS. The VBA had a completely redesigned body and engine which formed the basis for decades of future Vespas. The engine was a rotary inducted design which improved reliability, gave more power but reduced fuel consumption and required less oil in the fuel mix. The carburettor was relocated to a position just above the engine. The whole package was a much more professional-looking machine whilst retaining many similar features of the desirable lines of the GS with its cast handlebars. The later VBA models with 150 engine were sold in the UK with leg shield trim, Clamshell speedometer and and GS style rear light. Today, the VBA is an appealing Vespa and an appreciating model. This VBA combination was purchased as a present for the vendor's wife who fell in love with it. It had been recently restored when they bought it and had apparently done 200 miles since. The couple have recently decided to emigrate and are unfortunately not going to get it on the road. They have never used it. It is unknown where it has been as there are no documents with it. The chassis number area is unclear and were unable to see the chassis number clearly. However, before the auction when the scooter it is delivered to the venue we will have another go at revealing the numbers. In the meantime, we are able to confirm that it is indeed Pontedera-built as the clear stamped batch number inside the chassis tells us, and is almost certainly imported from Italy. The engine number is also consistent with this. Our consultant was able to see the scooter running by the direct application of fuel into the bore, it will, however, require a light commissioning of the fuel system. The sidecar looks to be in good condition. For more information, please contact: Paul Diamond info@vintagescooters.co.uk 07768 313001
