FINDLAY (A), A DIRECTORY FOR THE NAVIGATION OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN, 5th edition, folding frontis map, other plates, later 3/4 leather, London, Richard Holmes (1) CONDITION REPORT: Rebound. Frontis map a little worn on outer edge, title page grubby and a little chipped at edge. Xxiii-xxvi chipped at edge, no loss to text. Some foxing and light browning internally.

Other foxing, general blemishes and age browning. Binding grubby and with age wear.
An impressive set of four Arts and Crafts wall lights possibly Birmingham Guild of Handicraft, each modelled as a flower, with hammered brass back plates and wrought steel scroll arms with vaseline glass shades, 36cm length, 27cm wide (one shade with a hairline crack) (4) (sold with a spare shade matching) (5)PROVENANCE: Private collection, from a Thames riverside house, Windsor. CONDITION REPORT: Metal work with age wear tarnishing, light scratches etc. A little grubby in parts. Three of the lights with four uniform screw holes to the back plate, one with four additional holes to the back plate baking eight in total. The shade with a hair line crack was attached to one of the lights, however, this was ill fitting and thus the good spare shade has replaced this on the light. Therefore, it is the spare shade that has a hair line crack. All shades a little grubby. Lighting lots are sold as decorative items only. Painted in gilt to underside '5899'. Wileman 1894-1910 back stamp to reverse of each piece. Each piece showing surface scratches and crazing to varying degrees, some stained, also kiln marks and pitting signs are visible. Gilt wear and some firing cracks to rims. Slop bowl with stained firing crack to interior with further signs of stained scratching to interior. Three teacups with stained hairline cracks. One saucer marked as a second. One saucer with repaired stained cracks. One saucer with stained star crack. One saucer with stained hairline crack. Standard China - Some wear throughout including stained interiors and crazing. One teacup with crack surrounding base.

The name of the plate 'Brior Rose' has been written at the bottom of the card mount. 'As they flew' plate with small and old crease. 'Blow Blow little Breeze' plate with pencil drawing to card backing. Goose girl plate with ink writing / title to the card backing. Jack and the giant plate with crease to left hand bottom corner. Plate at page 94 with crease to bottom left corner. Plate to pate 104 with ink and pencil writing on the card backing. Plate at page 106 with two small nicks at bottom edge. The good sister pate with two creases. 'but they said one after antoher' plate with crease. 'Ther beggar' plate with small crease. A couple of the tissue guards lacking. Six of the tissue guards with pencil sketching. Some foxing, blemishes, browning and other small pencil drawings internally. Externally rubbed and with wear to the spine.
