AYNSLEY PORTLAND DESERT SERVICE, 13 pieces in Cobalt Blue and gilt to include a pair of 25cms across twin-handled dishes, a 23.5cms lobed dish and 10 x 21.5cms diameter plates, (lobed dish with restorations, surface scratches, crazing and light staining apparent to the plates, all but four have dull dings)
A Bristol blue and white delftware 'Electioneering' plate: inscribed 'Rolle for Ever' within a Merryman wreath cartouche, early 18th century, 21 cm diameter [minor chips and glaze losses to rim].* Note The Rolles of Stevenstone near Torrington were one of the leading landowning families of Devon and represented several Devon constituencies in Parliament. The present inscription could refer to one of two campaigns for election. The first in 1722 when John Rolle stood against three other candidates for the seat of Exeter and the second in 1741 when his son Henry stood for Barnstaple. They were both successful with Henry unopposed.Cf. Lincoln Halliman 'British Commemoratives' for a similar example and other delftware electioneering plates.
A Charles Heathcote & Co. pottery dinner service: in the Cambria pattern transfer decorated and enamelled with a seated Chinaman supporting two exotic birds amongst flowers and foliage, comprising a draining meat plate, strainer, six graduating serving dishes, twenty seven dinner plates, thirteen soup plates, fifteen smaller plates, soup tureen and cover, two vegetable dishes and covers, and two sauce tureens, covers and stands, printed marks and Prince of Wales plumes, 1818 - 24, [some damages and repairs].
