Despite being disbound, the contents are remarkably good, clean, bright, the plates incredibly well-preserved & fresh, a short tear to margin of dedication page (not affecting text), very pale spots & marks in places, a few bumps & slight wear to extreme edges of untrimmed pages, would benefit from a sympathetic binding

A Set of Six English Porcelain Armorial Dinner Plates, probably Coalport, circa 1830, painted with the crest of a greyhound seizing a hare over a ribbon inscribed with the motto GRATA SUME MANU for the Brisco family within a claret border with foliate panels highlighted in gilt and gadrooned rim27cm diameterIt would seem that the Brisco family arrived in England at the time of the Norman Conquest when a company of lancers from Brisgau in Swabia accompanied William during the Conquest. The family later had holdings in Wigton in Cumberland, St Kitts and MarylandOne with a small rim chip. Another with a hair crack. No other damage and free from repair. Some scratches to the ground colours and other typical wear. Some very tight and feint glaze crazing. Unmarked.

Pair of 18th century Venetian mirrors.Murano glass decorated with acid-etched depictions of musicians.It presents slight faults, but in good general state of conservation.Measurements: 68 x 27 cm.Venetian mirrors of baroque inspiration, with wooden souls and fronts entirely covered by glass plates, decorated with floral motives and foliage engraved to the wheel, surrounding the moon in different registers and prolonging in the crest. They rest on a bracket, their profile is pearled and they culminate in a triangular crest.

The second part investigates electricity in relation to the cure of diseases.

Cardinal Gastaldi was appointed commissioner general for public health and instigated an extensive programme evaluating the merits and health-providing value of hospitals, and sanitation regarding rivers, other water courses, and drainage. He also proposed strict hygiene measures such as a ban on trade, thorough cleaning of the streets, disinfection of bed linen, isolation hospitals, and health certificates.
