A scale model of the ship "TST Sir David Hunter", built by Fergus & Brothers Port Glasgow for South African Harbours and Railways 1906 bearing plaque inscribed as such, under a five sided glazed display case on a plinth base, 148 cm wide x 72 cm high over all CONDITION REPORTS Condition is generally good. Some light scratches throughout, general small signs of wear and tear throughout. Unable to comment on whether this is a ship builder's model or one done by a hobbyist. Unable to comment on age although it would appear the decoration on the hatches on the top of the ship are printed so this may give some idea. This item has come from a bankcruptcy job so we know no further details.

Belfast Other Notes: Col. Sir Ian Fraser, (b.1901 - d.1999) was former consultant surgeon at the Royal Victorian hospital, Belfast and also Northern Ireland's best known surgeon. At the start of World War II, he volunteered for the Royal Army Medical Corps and was called upon by the War Office to head an experimental team undertaking field trials on the use of penicillin. This he agreed to as long as he could use the drug on allied and enemy casualties. He later provided vital surgical support for the invasion of Europe on the beaches of Arromanches where he famously could operate using three tables at a time. He was also awarded the DSO for gallantry at the Battle of Salerno in 1943.
