Sculpture: A Val d’Osne foundry cast iron torchère figure of a maiden, late 19th century, the base with applied brass plaque inscribed FONDERIES DU VAL D’OSNE, 56 BD VOLTAIRE, PARIS, 210cm high Founded by J.P.Andre in 1835 and based at the Val d’Osne, in the Haute-Marne, the company took over rival firms such as Barbezat and Ducel becoming the largest and most prolific foundry of decorative and sculptural cast iron in France. The company exhibited at the Great Exhibitions of 1851 and 1862 as well as the Chicago Great Exhibition of 1893. This model is illustrated in the Val d’Osne foundry catalogue.
