A small selection of German WW1 items. To include: an Iron Cross 2nd class, with usual 3 part construction, and painted iron core. Correct ribbon style, but this is likely a later replacement. Plus, a black grade wound badge with pin and catch assembly to the reverse, a model 17’ Egg’ grenade with original screw in transit cap (marked ‘PRB’), and a 1915 dated 37cm German shell case, marked ‘Patronenfabrik Karlsruhe’. 4 items. Condition: generally good. Some bubbling to the painted iron core of the iron cross, and some tiny splitting of surface rust, but on the whole solid condition. Some paint loss to the wound badge around the helmet area. The grenade is in good condition, with a fully removable transportation cap. The shell is also good, with only a tiny spot of verdigris to the rim of the base.
A WW1 era officers MKVIII trench periscope by R & J Beck Ltd. Known the the Beck No.25, the periscope consists of a brass tube of narrow diameter, with a detachable wooden handle and focusing eyepiece. The item is also marked 1917 on the bridge, but this is possibly the year this model was first issued. The bridge is also marked ‘No 6862’. Notes: the brass body has been overpainted in green at some point in the past, but it’s unclear when this took place. Approximately 46cm length. Condition: structurally sound, with just a couple of light surface scuffs to the painted surface. The lenses are blurred, but it’s likely that this could be improved by some internal cleaning.
