GARRARD & CO., LONDON, 1876 after a George I model, the auricular shell body with an applied mask below the lip and a scaly serpent handle, the short stem cast as a seated dragon on an oval foot with foliate strapwork, gilt interior 10cm high, 132gr (4oz) A number of early Georgian silver jugs of this model (with slight variations) are recorded. Produced in the 1720s, many are unmarked. Franz von StuckA silver plated Nautilus cupStamped WMFon an ebonised wooden baseOverall 51.5cm high CONDITION REPORT: Von Ostini records that the Nautilus was one of the first sculptural works created by Stuck, pre-dating the Glaspalast exhibition in Munich in 1892 (when he displayed the famous Athlet) and finding its origins in two illustrations that Stuck designed in the 1880s: firstly a drawing for the Allegorien und Embleme portfolio published by Gerlach & Schenk, Vienna 1882/84, vol. 2, no. 82; and secondly for a calendar illustration for the month of October published in the Fliegende Blatter, 1889, no. 2306.Stuck himself owned a bronze version of the present model which mounted a real nautilus shell and appears as a prop in some of his paintings. It stood on his living-room cabinet until 1909 (see Bierbaum, op. cit., p. 79). The present version was executed by WMF, Geislingen.

A Rare Le Matt And Girard's Patent Dual System Second Model Nine-Shot Percussion 'Grape-Shot' RevolverNo. 8717, Circa 1864-65With 60-bore blued octagonal sighted barrel stamped 'LEMAT & GIRARD'S PATENT LONDON' along the top flat, fitted with hinged rammer on the left side and with round 18-bore 'grape-shot' barrel beneath, serial numbered cylinder retaining some blueing, squared action, hammer with pivoting nose, trigger-guard, butt with integral lanyard ring, and party chequered rounded figured grips (some wear, old rust patination and small areas of pitting) 17 cm. barrel Footnotes:First patented in America in 1856 Dr. Jean Alexandre Francois LeMat's famous revolver was ready for production by 1859. A partnership was formed with his cousin by marriage Major, later General, P.G.T. Beauregard who was an enthusiastic supporter of LeMat and his revolver, bringing it to the attention of the Conferate Military and even helping to finance it's production. By 1860 the partnership was over. However, the first production LeMat's were being built under the direction of Charles Federic Girard with whom LeMat had formed a new partnership in 1860. Formerly Assistant Secretary at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, Girard eventually acquired about 80% of the patent rights to the revolver and on his return to France oversaw the production of only about 3,000 of the revolvers between 1862 and 1865. Egg, London, NO. 69 And 70, Predominantly Early 19th CenturyWith rebrowned twist barrel with gold fore-sight and signed in gold capitals forward of an engraved starburst at the breech, replaced breech-plug with gold line and gold-lined touch-hole, re-engraved grooved tang, expertly made reproduction case-hardened border engraved flat lock inscribed 'D. Egg' within scrolls and decorated with a starburst behind the rainproof pan and with a martial trophy on the tail, foliate engraved 'French' cock, and steel bearing on a ramp on the blued steel-spring, figured half-stock with dark horn fore-end cap and chequered grip, border engraved steel mounts comprising butt-plate decorated with a gundog flushing a game bird on the heel tang, scroll trigger-guard in the French taste signed on an oval against a shrub and involving a prone gundog in a landscape on the bow, trigger-plate retaining some blueing and with finial engraved as a pineapple growing from an urn, vacant gold escutcheon and later silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and iron-mounted ramrod: in partly relined and refitted mahogany case, probably the original, spare barrel en suite and now fitted with expertly made reproduction case-hardened roller-primer lock and two roller primers of second model type, all with engraved decoration and inscribed 'Forsyth & Co. Patent', and accessories including brass-mounted G. & J.W.
