A very rare 21 3/4" LEONARD BAILEY`S 1855 Patent split frame iron jointer (see P-TAMPIA vol 1 pp40-42 for similar planes) this model has the spring under the brass screw instead of the front knob and fixes into a slot cut out of a semi-circle, the lever has no slot for a screw and no groove to fit the bar, the cam faces the opposite direction, the handle is held in place by 4 lugs cast into the sole the plane appears to be an intermediate model, the orig 2 3/8" iron by Greaves, we have never seen this model and size offered for sale, good glued repair to handle and a few orig casting spots to sole o/w in superb little used condition (see Russell fig 918 for details and illustration) G++

A wonderful 1985 working model of a carpenter, pencil behind his ear, working at his bench by ERIC WILLIAMS. The animated figure is carved from limewood, as the handle is turned the plane slides back and forth alongside all manner of tools scattered around the bench, the model stands 14" high (see Russell frontispiece for similar model) a quality piece F
A 9" d/t steel smoother boldly stamped SPIERS AYR Patent Applied For on brass lever with rosewood infill and handle. This plane probably started life as an early adjustable model as it is fitted with the steel retainer that would have held the adjuster which would also suggest it has been re-stuffed! G JEJ
