Daum, Nancy, a good cameo glass table lamp, circa 1910, with wrought iron fittings, the shade signed in cameo Daum Nancy with the Cross of Lorraine, the base signed in cameo DN with the Cross of Lorraine 50cm (20in) Other Notes: Auguste and Antonin Daum took over their father's factory in 1890s and began to produce art glass, introducing their cameo glass wares at the Chicago World Fair in 1893. Cameo glass is made with multiple layers of glass carved to achieve a design in low relief and sometimes combined other techniques such as enamelling and intaglio carving. The Daum brothers were greatly influenced by their neighbour Emile Gallé. The Daum glass became increasingly popular after Gallé's death in 1904. After the First World War, the Daum shifted production away from Art Nouveau to Art Deco designs and began to mass produce pieces using the different technique of Pâte-de-verre.
