FELIX AGOSTINI (FRENCH, 1910-1980), A GILT-BRONZE ‘SQUALE’ LIGHT FITTNGMid-20th Century Signed to the reverse, ‘F. Agostino’, probably later lead weight added 39.5cm high ARR Provenance: Property from a Deceased London Estate.Condition report: Overall in good condition. The patination a little rubbed as to be expected with age and use. Minor spot of verdi gris. Signature to the base and possibly a later infilled to the back. See images. The design of this was originally conceived as a wall fighting with the lamp shade and light secured above - as shown in a Charles Paris catalogue. However, there is presently no indication as to how this was secured to the wall.

Amazing crystal design with metal. Lamp has crystal center set on brass base. Crystal lampshade has a free flow appearance and when coupled with base makes a dramatic statement. A rare and fine Qing Dynasty Chinese paktong / bai-tong travelling opium smoker’s compendium, the exterior decorated with four bat-form bosses to front, the key terminal also of bat form making the wu fu (five bats) good fortune symbol, with copper trim to edges and double loop handle to lid, the interior with lamp comprising a clear glass shade of faceted form, and various compartments, each finely decorated with fretwork in the form of qash/cash tokens, the largest compartment containing an unusual three-sectioned travelling paktong opium pipe, the typical Yixing ware bowl having incised decoration and impressed mark to side, and with various accoutrements, also of paktong with inlaid copper decoration. 6.75cm by 13.25cm by 9cm. Height with shade (excluding funnel) 60cm, excluding shade 43cm.
