A George II walnut concertina action card table, the hinged fold-over top with protruding front corners, revealing a baize lined playing surface with dished counter wells and candlestands, fitted with a frieze drawer above an applied carved shell, on flower carved cabriole legs and pointed pad feet, possibly Irish, 73.3cm high, 81.4cm wide, 40.8cm deep. Provenance: Property from a deceased estate.
An American Federal mahogany and satinwood tea table attributed to John and Thomas Seymour of Boston, the shaped fold-over top with lobed front corners and with an inlaid edge, on a single gate support, with an inlaid frieze on fluted ribbed and stiff leaf-carved tapering legs, with two inscribed paper labels, 78cm high, 91cm wide, 45cm deep. The father and son firm of cabinet makers, John and Thomas Seymour, emigrated from England to Portland, Maine in 1785 and subsequently settled in Boston in 1794. See Sotheby's The Highly Important Americana Collection of George S. Parker II, New York, 19th January 2017, lot 2177 for a similar card table. Provenance: The labels to the underside of the table read 'Table belonging to Mrs Paul Wentworth (Lydia Coggswell) purchased by Mr & Mrs Wentworth about 1814 paternal grandparents of Mrs Roxana A. Wentworth Bowen'. The second label reads 'Paul Wentworth and Lydia Cogswell. Wedding furniture, March 1814. Given me by my Aunt Mary. R.A.W.B.' Passed from Mrs Roxana Atwater Wentworth Bowen (1854-1935) to her daughter Roxana Wentworth Bowen who was the godmother of the present owner.
An early 18th century walnut and seaweed marquetry card table, the crossbanded fold-over top inlaid with stringing and burr panels, revealing a plush fabric lined playing surface with dished counter wells and marquetry candlestands, with a frieze drawer on hocked cabriole legs and pad feet, 71.6cm high, 72cm wide, 36cm deep.
