A George IV inlaid and cross banded mahogany D-shaped card table, the kingwood cross banded top inlaid with ebony stringing and keywork, over a similar keywork, diamond inlaid and barber's pole banded frieze, raised on ring turned tapered legs, 36 x 18in. (91.5 x 45.75cm.), 29½in. (75cm.) high.
A George III/IV "D" shaped rosewood crossbanded satinwood fold-over card table, with entablature frieze over spindle columns and inverted sabre supports with brass lions paw casters. 88 cm long x44 cm deep x 76 cm high. Theodor Rombouts, 1597 – 1637, zug.KARTENSPIELER AM TISCH MIT EINEM KIEBITZ Öl auf Leinwand. 145 x 200 cm.Wie nicht wenige Werke des Malers zeigt sich auch dieses in betontem Großformat. In abgedunkeltem Raum sitzen sich zwei Kartenspieler an einem Tisch gegenüber, zwei weitere Figuren, eine alte Wirtin und ein Jüngling vor seinem Glas und Teller sind rechts am Tischende zu sehen. Links dagegen beugt sich ein grauhaariger Alter weit vor, um in die Karten seines Tischnachbarn zu blicken. Die Figuren sind schlaglichtartig von links beleuchtet, aus einer Lichtquelle, die im Bild nicht zu sehen ist. Die Hell-Dunkel-Malerei des Caravaggismus lässt die Figuren umso plastischer erscheinen. Die Hauptfigur, ein Mann im noblen Landsknechtskostüm mit breitrandigem Hut und roter Feder und umgegürteter Stichwaffe im Halfter, sitzt einzig an der Frontseite des Tisches. Er hält seine Karten in der Linken und ist dabei eine rote Karte zu ziehen, während er gleichzeitig seine rechte Hand auffordernd an seinen Gegner richtet. Dieser wiederum zeigt sich noch unentschlossen. Die Darstellung lässt mehrere Deutungsmöglichkeiten des Spielgeschehens offen. Klar jedoch scheint, dass der Alte als Kibietz fungiert. Möglicherweise ist die Szene rechts dahingegen zu deuten, dass hier der Knappe des Landsknechts von der alten Wirtin ermahnt wird, von der Zusammenarbeit mit dem Betrüger abzulassen, was dieser nur mit einem Lächeln kommentiert. Bildaufbau und die Inszenierung der Darstellung stehen den Werken Caravaggios sehr nahe. So gilt Rombouts als der primäre Caravaggist dieser flämischen Stilrichtung. Zunächst studierte er unter anderem bei Abraham Janssens, vielleicht auch bei Nicolas Régnier in Antwerpen, bevor er sich 1616 nach Rom begab, um dort fast 10 Jahre zu bleiben. Es wird auch allgemein angenommen, dass er anlässlich eines Aufenthaltes in Florenz für Cosimo II de Medici arbeitete und damit auch mit Bartolomeo Manfredi in nahen Kontakt kam. 1625 wurde er Meister der Lukasgilde in Antwerpen. Auch in seinem bekannten Werk „Verleugnung Petri“ (Liechtenstein Museum) ist das Kartenspiel ein Begleitthema. Some old chips and splits. Both tables with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some losses to veneers - see images. The mounts with the expected wear and surface deposits. The gilt brass edges to the tops of both tables are loose/lifting slightly in places. The baize to the interiors are replaced. Some fading to tops with slightly darker sections to the centres (possibly from where objects have sat over time). The underside of both tables with the backs of the front legs with two later screws to help secure. One sabot is loose but remains in position. A GEORGE II MAHOGANY HARLEQUIN TABLE IN THE MANNER OF THOMAS POTTER, C.1740 the crossbanded hinged fold-over top revealing an interior, with a rising cartonnier fitted with pigeonholes and drawers, the interior probably originally with a lined writing surface, on lappet carved legs and pad feet, on sunken leather roller castors 74.7cm high, 79.2cm wide, 41.3cm deep Catalogue Note The harlequin multi-purpose mechanical table was named after the master-of-disguises in the 18th Century Commedia dell'Arte theatre. A related design for a harlequin table of this form is included on the trade card of Thomas Potter (d.1782), cabinet-maker of High Holborn (now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, ref. no. E.2320-1889). See Adam Bowett, Early Georgian Furniture 1715-1740, p.265, pl.5 for a similar example.

He purchased Leyton House from the Bertie family in 1788 which subsequently became Barclay Park. A REGENCY SATINWOOD BANDED COROMANDEL CARD TABLEOn gilt decorated leaf carved column and four downswept supports, 92cm wide; 72cm highCondition report: Shrinkage split running most of the width of the top - please see extra image. Veneers to the edges have been repaired and painted to emulate Coromandel. At some point cleaned and polished, with the varnish discolouring in places to the top, mostly to the right side. The gilt decoration to the pedestal is later but with dirt and dust. Other shrinkage cracks, general wear and tear commensurate with use and age. Later baize lining. Please se extra images.
