An antique 19th Century French Boullework / Boulle Work ebonised swivel top card table / games table. Stunning brass inlaid top with central horn and wheat motif surrounded by leaf border and floral medallion rosettes to the corners. The fold over lip opening to reveal a spacious interior storage compartment and green lined felt playing area. The sides further decorated and having applied ormolu brass details. All raised on turned reeded tapering legs. A trully impressive example. Measures 70cm / 68cm x 85cm x 43cm / 91cm.

A framed montage relating to Princess Beatrice (1857-1944), with a plaque inscribed 'Presented to the Author of "Shakespeare's True Life" by her Royal Highness the Princess Henry of Battenburg', comprising a letter inscribed in ink on Osborne House headed notepaper dated 7 January 1896, a black and white photograph of the Princesses children Victoria Eugenie of Battenburg (Ena), Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany and Alexander Mountbatten, 1st Marquess of Carisbrooke (inscribed with names beneath the photograph), plus a large black and white portrait photograph of the Princess in later life, 20 x 15cm (8 x 6ins), beautifully presented in a period gilt gesso moulded frame with gold card mounts, within in a stained pine frame, glazed, 42.5 x 61.5cm (16.5 x 24.25ins)Qty: (1)NOTESShakespeare's True Life was written by James Walter in 1890, the letter included in the lot refers to Walter and reads 'Princess Henry of Battenburg has often had the opportunity of admiring Major Walter's interesting 'True Life of Shakespeare" as it is one of the books on the table in the Queen's Drawing Room at Osborne'. Princess Beatrice (1857-1944) also known later as Princess Henry of Battenberg was the fifth daughter and youngest child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
A Victorian exhibition quality figured walnut card table, the rectangular top with a moulded edge enclosing a baize and black and gilt leather insert, on four turned and fluted supports, each with gilt metal mounts, and with a flat stretcher on sabre legs with small brass castors, 74cm high, 107cm wide, 53cm deep.
An early/mid Georgian mahogany card table with triple folding top and outset rounded corners, frieze drawer, on shell carved cabriole legs and leaf carved feet, width 91 cm (possibly Irish). The condition is good overall. The hinge action and gate leg are ok. Some old wear to top with one small repair at the back on the right hand side. A few chips to carving and some small loss to frieze below drawer.

After military service he was posted to the Gambia as a lands officer, becoming Attorney General in 1964, he helped draft the Gambian constitution prior to independence in 1965, remaining in his post until 1968 being the only European in the Gambian cabinet after independence. He was appointed Chief Justice of the Gambia in 1968 and earned a reputation for fairness, tolerance and kindness. He retired to England in 1983 and died in December 2007 in Suffolk
