JAPANESE TOBACCO BOX. A Japanese lacquered tobacco box (Tabaco-dan), with swing copper handle, a square copper ash box with handle & a square tobacco box over three drawers. Width 26, height incl. handle 30cm. CONDITION REPORTS: The carcass-There is damage to the top rim, especially where the handle has been dropped down. There is loss of the structure on the front right-hand corner, where the metal brace is also missing. There is evidence of old, glued repairs to uprights and areas where the shelves meet the side supports (we have taken close-up photos th show this). On the top right hand side, the metal right-angled mount is missing. The two metal containers are in good condition. There are no splits, metal fatigue or repairs. Two of the three drawers have chips to the upper edges or inside edges.
Follower of John Constable RA, British 1776-1837- Figures by a pond with a cottage in a wooded landscape; oil on canvas, 35.2x43.5cm., (unframed) CONDITION REPORT: canvas has been re-lined circa early-mid 20th century on a replacement wooden stretcher with single vertical cross brace member under inspection with uv lamp there is evidence of retouching and restorations throughout the paint surface some of this restoration is of relatively recent date and others from an earlier point in time with craquelure throughout the paint surface there is much in-filling to the existing craquelure overall in good restored condition

Attributed to Alfred Dehodencq, French 1822-1882- Study of a monk, head and shoulders; oil on canvas, in a 19th century gilt composition Empire style frame, 55x46cm CONDITION REPORT: frame looks to be the original, circa mid 19th century with key construction retains the original gilt surface with some losses to the gesso mainly front edge canvas has been re-lined circa early 20th century on a wooden stretcher with cross brace stretcher bears inscriptions in blue crayon some damages to the stretcher and taping disturbance centre right and left edges reverse of canvas with stamp lower right under inspection with uv lamp there is no evidence of recent re-touching or restorations paint surface has been re-varnished but not in recent years and this varnish has not been disturbed
Circle of John Hamilton Mortimer ARA, British 1740-1779- The Expulsion of Adam & Eve; oil on canvas, 44.5x57cm, (unframed) CONDITION REPORT: has been re-lined circa late 19th century or at an earlier date retains the original wooden stretcher and cross brace with wooden wedges some replacements cross brace bowed concave taping to the edges somewhat rubbed with losses here and there some wear and tear to the corners of the tacking edge of the canvas under inspection with uv lamp there is one small area of retouching visible centre right edge crazing to the right hand edge of the canvas with single small area of flaking has been re-varnished but not recently in very good original condition

Julie Mellaerts, Belgian, mid-late 19th century- Portrait of a lady, standing half-length in a lace bodice, black coat and hat; oil on canvas, signed and dated 1884, 70x52cm CONDITION REPORT: in a gilt moulding frame, mid-20th century, not the original frame canvas has not been relined retains the original wooden stretcher with single horizontal cross brace the paint surface has been re-varnished at some point in time varnish has bled through the craquelure with widespread staining on the reverse of the canvas patch top right corner on the reverse tear lower left to the left of the sitter's shoulder under inspection with UV lamp there are numerous areas of re-touching and over-painting throughout the paint surface, in particular the face of the sitter and the hat is subject to pronounced raised craquelure and pigment separation/reticulation there is further craquelure and some reticulation of the paint surface elsewhere the canvas is somewhat ruckled the canvas is subject to bar marks, particularly horizontally in the centre overall in fair condition but will require much further restoration

East India Company flintlock cavalry pistols, 16? overall, barrels 9? with London proofs and ordnance inspector?s mark, and stamped with Indian arsenal marks to left of breeches, rounded locks with ring neck cocks, plates stamped with rampant lion mark, dark walnut fullstocks with regulation brass mounts, lanyard rings in butt caps, and swivel ramrods. Good Working Order and basically good condition, (some service wear and patina overall, one pan and touch hole relined with brass during its working life). Plate 45
