The gold ring with a conical bezel surmounted by a corundum cabochon, held by a beak-shaped brace, the bezel with intricate granular decorations.Provenance: From the private collection of a diplomat in England, and thence by descent to the last owner.Condition: Good condition with some old wear, one brace missing, traces of use and some manufacturing irregularities.Weight: 3.8 gDimensions: Height 2.2 cmGoldsmiths in Bali are masters of the granulation technique. Small gold grains are delicately soldered to the ring surface to create intricate designs. A gold strip is additionally folded over the primary gem, holding the stone and forming a collar around it. A WALNUT AND FLORAL MARQUETRY CABINET ON CHEST PROBABLY ANGLO-DUTCH, 18TH CENTURY With paper ownership label 200cm high, 99cm wide, 58cm deep Condition Report: Overall there are some scratches, marks, knocks, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.There are some losses, restorations and observations including:The top with some cracks and a wooden brace. Some sections of moulded beading are detached or missing.There is some evidence of old worm.Some veneer sections of marquetry are cut so that the design is cut through and they do not match the design of the adjacent veneers. The glass to the door is bevelled glass, the glazed sides are not bevelled. The sides and door with parquetry bands - to the sides they are complete octagons around marquetry reserves, the the door the band stops abruptly and does not traverse the arched top. These features might suggest that the cabinet has in some way been adapted.The handles and locks to the oak lined drawers are later. The door has a key and the door is lined with blue paper. One of the back legs with a later metal brace and some movement to that joint.The top with some fading, only evident as there are some darker shadows to the central area; some water marks.There is small evidence of old worm.There are no keys for the locks. The gilt metal handles are probably later and one of them is missing the central cover. A PAIR OF REGENCY BLACK PAINTED AND PARCEL GILT ARMCHAIRS BY JOHN GEE, CIRCA 1815 each bearing a monogram type stamp to a seat rail of a 'J' within a 'G' each 87cm high, 57cm wide, 64cm deep overall Condition Report: See Christopher Gilbert, Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996. John Gee's work includes caned beech chairs with various painted finishes similar to the present lot. Gee, 'Chairmaker and Turner to His Majesty', is recorded from 1799 at 49 Wardour Street Soho.Overall there are some scratches, marks, knocks, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.Observations include:The upholstery fabric has a geometric pattern woven on an orange ground, probably from the second half of the 20th century, the squab cushion filler feels like traditional horsehair.The chair backs have a finer size of canework with a gilt finish, the seat canework has some damage.There is some evidence of old worm.The paintwork has some wear including to the gilt paint, and there are signs of some later paintwork visible by the brushstrokes to the underside of the chair.There are some cracks including to the seat rail and leg areas, one leg has a later metal brace. Frame in gilded silver depicting the Madonna kissing the child. Rectangular frame with a semicircular arched top and two closing doors, decorated on the outside with pinkish-lilac transparent enamel on a guillashed surface. The semicircular upper surface of the frame is decorated on the outside with orange transparent enamel over a guilloched surface. The sashes of the frame are equipped with a latch. On the reverse side of the frame, a figured easel movable (on a loop) brace with a slotted pattern is fixed. In the central part, in a rectangular frame, there is an image of the Madonna holding and kissing the baby (possibly based on Josef Zasche (Austria, 1821-1881). The drawing is made in the technique of painted enamel (?). Good condition. Brand: Female head, oriented Letter A to the right, letter L to the left. British Post War Officers Set of 1944 Pattern Web Equipment comprising of belt, brace straps, brace attachments, pistol holster and ammunition pouch, binocular case and compass pouch, and an alloy water-bottle in a web carrier. This equipment was introduced in 1944 in anticipation of an invasion of Japan. After the Japanese Surrender, the equipment was widely issued to British troops deployed on active service around the globe, including Korea and the far east.
