A George II walnut fold-top tea table, with double-hinged top, revealing a storage compartment with dummy escutcheon to the front, on cabriole legs with pointed pad feet. Height 74cm, width 112cm, total depth 112cm.Condition report: There is some movement in the joints of the legs and an area of restoration to the tabletop, signs of general wear consummate with age. A very early Football Association tour blazer badge relating to the first ever England v Germany international football matches played in Berlin, 23rd and 24th November 1899, originally belonging to the pioneering F.A. official Charles James Hughes (1853-1916),the cloth badge with intricate silk work and metal thread featuring the British Royal Coat of Arms, Union Jack and German Navy Ensign flags, and the Prussian Eagle, inscribed THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION, 1899, very good condition possibly unusedAlthough deemed unofficial, and played a short while before the German Football Association (DFB) was founded, these twin back-to-back games were the first ever England v Germany international football matches - and the start of one of the most famous rivalries in world football. The matches were played on a Football Association Tour of Germany at the invitation of Walther Bensemann, Secretary of the German Committee for International Soccer Matches.The historic first Germany v England match on the 23rd November 1899 ended as a 13-2 win for the tourists. Five of the England goals were scored by Burnley's Edgar Chadwick. The other goals all came in braces, scored by the amateurs E.D. Brown (Clapton) and Geoffrey Wilson (Corinthians), and the professionals Fred Forman (Nottingham Forest) and Billy Bassett (WBA). The crowd was recorded as 1,500.In the second game, played at 10am the following day, and attended by 512 spectators, England won the match 10-2, with half the visitors' goals being scored by Newcastle United's Joe Rogers. The Corinthians amateur Stanley Taylor scored a brace, as did Nottingham Forest's Frederick Forman, whilst West Bromwich Albion's Billy Bassett netted the other England goal. In both matches the German goalscorers were Bock of Fortuna Berlin and Walter Jestram of Berliner Thor uFC Britannia 1892.The German team for both matches included Ivo Schricker who would go on to become the third FIFA General Secretary 1932 to 1951.

One leg has broken off and is also cracked. This foot is stamped. Brass castors stamped. Underside with late metal supporting brace. Upholstery of the seat distressed as can be seen in images. Later covered at some point with no obvious remains of the Howard ticking. Dust sheet with remains of Howard mark, but generally in tatters. The wolf skins, throws and part of the tapestry panel are loose. Please note all in worn condition.

Loose of moulding to the one side return with shrinkage.
AN 18TH CENTURY OAK DRESSER BASEWith three frieze drawers, on canted block supports, 190cm wide; 85cm highCondition report: The top: Loss to the back left hand corner, together wtih various marks, scuffs, stains and variations with a small patch of worm, some minor shifting of timber. The back: board resecured with two later screws, some old worm in areas. The legs: front right leg with an old metal brace repair, with some staining above, feet worn with the back ones having some worm damage. Sides: losses to the fret details on the sides, applied side panels, one of which is slightly split. Drawers: later handles, although no scar marks from previous ones. Some old worm to drawer linings, some shrinkage and some stiff. One drawer with missing cock beaded edge to the right hand side. No locks and wear to the rail above in the corresponding lock area. An early 19th century cross framed blonde oak stool; later upholstered drop-in seat above two X-framed supports united by a central turned stretcher (old damage and reparations etc. one cross end fractured and repaired with steel brace, no live woodworm visible) (95cm long x 53cm deep x 41cm high not including 5cm seat pad)
A pair of early 19th century French elm and pollard elm upholstered tub-style chairs; each with carved arm supports terminating in carved lappets above cabriole front legs with further lappets carved to the knees, with tapering legs, of good colour and patination (79cm high x 54.5cm wide x 55cm deep, seat pad 47.5cm wide x 40cm deep)Condition Report: The colour of the show wood is particularly attractive with various grains showing. Both of the chairs have slight watermarks (one with a 3cm mark, the other a 10cm mark and various much smaller one. Chair one - underneath the two back legs on one appear to have had some strengthening 'plasters' historically applied to the top under the rail. The front legs have been re-affixed at some stage to the bowed side rails (done sometime ago). The bottoms of the legs are noted to have darkened quite significantly. Chair two - also exhibits darkening towards the end of the legs commensurate with age and usage etc. Some braiding away at the front. One of the front legs looks like it has been re-affixed at the top and middle where two later dowels are evident, also a historic vertical split to this leg (2cm) inner section. Other leg is missing the corner brace. Generally the condition is commensurate with age but still very sturdy.
