Munich Olympics - Athletics Munich Olympic (Olympische Spiele Munchen) poster by British artist Peter Phillips, one of the series of posters by various popular artists of the period (Peter Phillips, Horst Antes, Otl Aicher, David Hockney among others) commissioned to design the 1972 Olympic Games posters in Germany for their advertising campaign, which aimed to "represent the intertwining of sports and art worldwide". DAVID HOCKNEY; a signed coloured print, 'Paper Pool #7', signed in pencil to lower right and titled lower left, the image 65 x 75.5cm, framed and glazed (D). CONDITION REPORT: There is a tear of approximately 3.5cm in the upper right corner which is easily visible to the naked eye, has possibly been repaired in the past and there is a crease in the lower right corner which is clearly visible and affects signature, approx 3cm, there are small spots, marks, indentations to the right border also a minor crease approx a third of the way down on the right border, a few further minor spots and marks to left and lower borders, some trapped dirt and flakes of frame beneath glass, chip to frame on left side, further general wear, colours remain generally good but print an uneven appearance when light catches the surface.Provenance: part of the Keith Paul collection which has come straight from his studio.This lot qualifies for Artist Resale Rights. David Hockney (1937-), "Pleading for the Child" from Rumpelstilzchen, illustrations for Six Fairy Tales by the Brothers Grimm, 1969, unsigned on print but signed on final page, from a limited edition portfolio of 100 with 15 artist's proofs, each Fairy Tale is bound separately as a concertina fold of text and images (laporetto) and signed and numbered by the artist on the final page, with exhibition private view card - 'David Hockney, 39 etchings illustrating Six Fairy Tales by the Brothers Grimm, June 3-30 1977, Gallery 39, Manchester' attached on verso, etching, plate size 27 x 25.5cm, 10.5 x 10in. * Hockney had already made etchings based on the Rumpelstilzchen story in 1961 and again in 1962, and for the new series he planned to illustrate twelve of the tales, but finally settled on just six titles: The Little Sea Hare, Fundevogel, Rapunzel, The Boy who left Home to learn Fear, Old Rink Rank and Rumpelstilzchen.
OLYMPIC GAMES MUNICH 1972 - "Olympische Spiele Munchen 1972" (1970's) - A highly-collectible original colour lithograph poster promoting the 1972 Munich Olympics, designed and signed on plate by English-American pop artist David Hockney . His signature also dates the photo 1970. This print depicts a figure leaping into a pool of water. Brightly coloured abstract shapes make up the surface of the pool, in a style similar to other imagery of pools and swimmers that Hockney is well-known for. The lower left corner of the poster bears the Olympic logo. (25.2" x 40.1" - 64 x 102 cm) - Rolled (as issued) & printed on a heavy stock paper - Very fine
Picasso (Pablo).- Programme for 'Desire Caught by the Tail': A Play in Six Acts by Pablo Picasso, 6pp. duplicated typescript Foreword by Roland Penrose (the translator) stapled in printed wrappers with illustration by Picasso, vertical crease where previously folded, a little soiled and creased/frayed at edges, 4to, 1950.⁂ Surreal play written by Picasso in Paris in January 1941, following the German occupation. It was first given a public reading at the house of Michel Leiris in March 1944, directed and produced by Albert Camus and including Simone de Beauvoir, Dora Maar and Jean-Paul Sartre in the cast. This first London theatrical performance was produced by William Jay and took place at the Watergate Theatre for two weeks in October 1950. It has rarely been performed since due to its incomprehensibility, although David Hockney appeared in a performance at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1984.
