A sample of the paper to be used, printing instructions and a negative for printing the image of the machine are included on the reverse. One of the leading figures of British Pop Art, Phillips studied at the Royal College of Art alongside David Hockney, Allen Jones, R.B. Kitaj and Patrick Caulfield. Phillips took an interest in the aggressive American advertising and montage style work he saw through the work of Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg.  Upon being awarded the Harkness Fellowship he moved to New York, where he exhibited alongside Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and James Rosenquist, making a name for himself as a preeminent Pop artist in New York. He juxtaposes everyday imagery to subvert mass-media culture. .His works are in the collections of Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. A retrospective of his work was held at the Tate, London.
