HOCKNEY DAVID: (1937- ) English painter, an important contributor to the pop art movement in the 1960s. Black ink signature (´David Hockney´) on an oblong 12mo sheet of pale blue printed notelet stationery from the Andre Emmerich Gallery in New York. Above his signature Hockney has provided a telephone number and address, 33 West 9th Street, in his hand. VGAndre Emmerich (1924-2007) German-born American art dealer who represented Hockney and many other artists. The house located at 33 West 9th Street in Greenwich Village, New York, was purchased in 1972 by modern art curator, historian and critic Henry Geldzahler (1935-1994). The NYC Commissioner of Cultural Affairs from 1977-82, Geldzahler was openly gay, and his home was visited by many artists including Hockney, and Andy Warhol.
