First-generation R230 transformed by AMG. 13,622 miles 6-litre, twin-turbocharged, V12 producing 604bhp and 740lbs/ft Dramatically presented in Almandine Black Metallic with 19", dual-spoke AMG alloys Fabulous bespoke Designo interior with Comfort Ventilated Seats Full service-history. Six recorded services with the most recent at 13,307 miles We are in danger of running out of superlatives. Possibly the best-looking R230 in the world AMG, the official performance division of Mercedes-Benz, has a long history of producing high-performance derivatives of Mercedes' standard production vehicles, and these improved versions enjoy an enthusiastic following worldwide. When the stunning SL55AMG was introduced in 2003 with its 5.4-litre V8 producing 476 BHP and a tree stump pulling 520lbs/ feet of torque it was naturally assumed it would remain top of the range, however, AMG had a further party-trick. A year later the SL 65 AMG arrived and was the new 'King of the Castle'. It retained the stylish looks and civilised manners of the rest of the range but was powered by a V12 leviathan capable of crushing the competition at a push of the accelerator. The twin-turbo, 6.0-litre engine delivers a remarkable 604hp which is tamed through an intricate network of safety features and keep-you-alive electronics. At 740 lbs-ft, the torque output is sufficient to keep you pinned in the immaculately stitched leather seats, in any gear at any time, whilst the five-speed automatic transmission with manual capability provides a good level of control. Distinctive 19" dual-spoke AMG-signature alloys camouflage the eight-piston caliper performance brakes and the suspension has been subtly tweaked to deal with the general increase in numbers. Performance is documented at 0-60mph in 3.6 secs and 0-100 mph in 7.5 seconds. All in all, a beautifully packaged amalgam of huge power, sumptuous comfort and window-rattling noise. This distinctive, original UK-supplied, right-hand drive, SL65AMG was ordered from Greenoaks Mercedes in late July 2004 and from the original purchase invoice, we can see that it was specified in Almandine Black Metallic with Designo Single-tone exclusive leather, Designo Maple door caps, Designo Anthracite carpets and Comfort Ventilated Seats bringing the overall total to a substantial £151,239.19. The Pre-Delivery inspection sheet is dated 16-11-2004 and is in the history file. At the time of cataloguing the indicated mileage is 13,622 and this is corroborated by the service booklet which records six services at Mercedes-Benz /AMG dealers with the most recent at Mercedes Norwich on 11-10-2019 at 13,307 miles. There are invoices in the file that detail these services and any additional works that were required as well as a complete complement of MOTs going back to 7-01-2007 including the current one which is valid until 20-04-2021. The car appears to be in superb condition throughout and is supplied with both keys and the complete owner's manuals in the correct binder. The R230 is one of the best-looking cars from the period and the larger-engined AMG cars have become collectable modern classics. Considering that less than 14,000 miles ago over £150,000 would have been necessary to own this fabulous, top-of-the-range Mercedes, today's guide seems sensible indeed. Lot 1028

1985 Yamaha RD500LC, 499 cc. Registration number B77 GNL. Frame number 1GE002563. Engine number 1GE002563. Introduced in 1984, the RD500LC was a street legal, road going version of Yamaha's factory YZR500 competition motorcycle which at the time was leading the world championship with Kenny Roberts. This wasn't a motorcycle based upon a current production model intended for the road, but a fresh adaptation of a factory race machine, the closest thing to a Gran Prix motorcycle the average rider could get. The 499cc V-4 two-stroke engine developed 88 bhp @ 9500 rpm in its tuned for the street form. The liquid cooled engine was a 50° twin crankshaft V-4 with the dual crankshafts geared directly to the wet, multi-disc clutch. With four 26mm Mikuni carburettors using reed valve induction, the carburettors were necessarily mounted at the sides of the cylinders but on 90° manifolds to reduce the width of the engine package. The transmission was kick start only through a 6-speed close ratio gear set. Lubrication of the gears and outer crankshaft bearings was though a trochoid oil pump driven by a separate crankshaft. The chassis was formed by box section mild steel tubing and a full fairing cloaked the motorcycle. Braking was afforded by state-of-the-art twin 267mm ventilated steel disc with a 2-piston calliper up front while a similar 245mm single disc did the duties in the back. Yamaha's Monoshock handled the suspension in the rear of the motorcycle. Weighing in at 452 lbs., the Yamaha had a top speed of 148 mph. Only produced a few short years from 1984 through 1986, the Yamaha RD500LC is rare and highly collectible. This rare UK, unrestored and totally original, machine was ordered in July of 1984 by James Todd of Bishop Auckland and he took delivery on the 1st April 1985 for the sum of £3,270 from Harry Woods of Newcastle upon Tyne. He rode it sparingly until 1992 when the MOT expired and as his health had become an issue it was parked up with a mileage of 4,609. After he passed away in May 2015 it was transferred to his brother who has stored it since. Totally original except for the off side wing mirror which was damaged when it fell over (a pattern part is fitted but the original is included in the sale). Sold by these rooms as lot 1057 on the 7th July 2018 to our vendor. He has not used it due to ill health although he has purchased a pair of original wing mirrors, new fuel lines, new spark plugs and a battery (none have been fitted) Sold with the V5C, four MOT's, the bill of sale and collection docket, the service log, owner's manual, service manual, toolkit, the original mirror and a copy of the July auction catalogue and invoice.

AN IMPORTANT MODEL OF RICHARD TREVITHICK'S ILL-FATED GATESHEAD LOCOMOTIVE OF 1805, SUCCESSOR TO THE PEN-Y-DARREN LOCOMOTIVE OF 1804,similar to the Pen-y-Darren locomotive, it was built with the engine position reversed, such that the flywheel was mounted at the chimney end. It was ordered by Christopher Blackett, owner of Wylam Colliery who feared for his wooden truck and refused to pay. It was subsequently turned into a cupola blowing engine. The horizontal boiler is flanged at the fire-hole door end and the back-head plate supports the chimney and main crankshaft bearing brackets. The cylinder is set horizontally into the boiler and has integrally cast plug valve gear driven via a plug rod and lever mounted on the cruciform piston rod cross-head. The cross-head runs on horizontal bar guides supported on wrought iron brackets secured to the chassis, and drives twin cotter big and little ends connecting rods set to avoid the flywheel and intermediary drive spur gear. The flywheel incorporates a counter-balance weight and is mounted on a square and faceted crankshaft with a slip plate driven gearwheel engaging the main drive spur wheel and individual gearwheels bolted to the outside of the cast iron spoked wheels, 10in (250cm) high x 15in (38cm) wide Footnotes:According to Jonathan Minns's notes, this model was constructed for the King of Egypt and he also built other models for the Science Museum of London and Cairo.Provenance:Property of The British Engineerium, Hove.
