B-50 Superfortress 1950s Bomber Military Airplane Control Yoke Steering Wheel, nosewheel steering marked on back AC-168 (4) and A.H.R. Co. The Boeing B-50 Superfortress is an American strategic bomber. A post–World War II revision of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, it was fitted with more powerful Pratt & Whitney R-4360 radial engines, stronger structure, a taller tail fin, and other improvements. It was the last piston-engine bomber built by Boeing for the United States Air Force, and was further refined into Boeing's final such design, the B-54. Though not as well known as its direct predecessor, the B-50 was in USAF service for nearly 20 years. This yoke was saved from the wreck of a B-50 by one of the Serving Firefighters, the plane which crashed just outside of Dunton Patch 1947/48 near Fakenham in Norfolk and comes with pictures of the wreckage. Il s'agit d'une magnifique opportunité à ne pas manquer pour tout collectionneur averti.1981 Renault 5 TurboChassis no. VF1822000B0000540Engine no. 2794The Renault 5 Turbo (and later Turbo 2) was a mid-engined 'homologation special' built in limited numbers for Group B rallying between 1979 and 1986. Renault's considerable Formula 1-derived turbo-charging expertise was applied to the humble 1.4-litre overhead-valve engine, resulting in a power increase to 160bhp (in road trim), an output sufficient for a top speed of 200km/h and a 0-100km/h time of around 7 seconds. In the Turbo, this remarkable little engine was mounted amidships (where the rear passenger seats had been) and drove the rear wheels via a five-speed transaxle. According to the vendor, this example was first registered in France in 1981 and is number '632' of only some 1,820 examples produced of the sought-after first series, which is distinguished from the second by its aluminium doors and bonnets. The first-series interior with its hard-to-find two-spoke steering wheel is much more special than that of the successor Turbo 2, and this car's is in excellent condition. In 1991 the car was sold to its first Italian owner, who registered it in the province of Cuneo in Piedmont. The car changed hands a few more times before being acquired for his collection by the current owner in 2015. Disliking the non-original blue paintwork, he commissioned the respected Renault competition specialist, Piero Racing of Cassano Spinola, Alessandria to restore the car and reinstate the original colour. The car was completely dismantled and the body sandblasted and professionally repainted in the original red. In the meantime, the engine was overhauled, the valve seats, piston rings, fuel pump, fuel injectors, hot air extractor and numerous other parts being replaced. In addition, the speedometer and rev counter were been serviced and reportedly work well. All spare parts were purchased from the French supplier 3S Developpement of Colomars, another very well known Renault 5 Turbo specialist. The restoration is documented by various photographs taken at different stages of the works. Once finished, the car was correctly set up and is now reported to be in excellent working order; indeed, it has recently (December 2021) passed the Italian 'revisione' (roadworthiness test), which is valid for two years. The car comes with the original owner's manual in its original pouch; a Renault-badged car cover; an original sales brochure; Italian registration documents; and an ASI Certificato di Rilevanza Storica e Collezionistica (Certificate of Historical and Collectible Relevance). Not to be missed, this is a wonderful opportunity for the discerning collector. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

A unique example of pioneering automotive technology1993 Volvo 850 Gas Turbine/Electric Hybrid Prototype• Un des deux prototypes construits par Volvo• Le seul sur le marché• 4 000 km depuis l'origine• Unique exemple d'une technologie d'avant-garde• One of only two built by Volvo• The only one not in captivity• 4,000 kilometres from new• Unique example of pioneering automotive technologyFootnotes:Volvo 850 Hybride Turbine à gaz/Électrique Prototype 1993Châssis n° inc. With increasing pressure from legislators to find 'green' alternatives to the petrol/diesel fuel, most manufacturers have opted for electric or hybrid (combined electric motor/piston engine) propulsion systems. But in the 1990s Volvo experimented with a combined gas turbine/electric hybrid. Two such prototypes were built: that offered here being the sole in private hands. Volvo already possessed considerable experience of building aviation gas turbines through its subsidiary, Volvo Flygmotor, and its first experimental automotive gas turbine had been installed in a Volvo 264 saloon - the company's first Environmental Concept Car (ECC) - in 1978. Abandoning turbine-only propulsion, Volvo turned to the 'series hybrid' system: the electric motor driving the wheels while the gas turbine drives a high-speed generator (HSG) whose output is delivered to the batteries and/or motor. This system can be operated as electric-only or combined, with the generator functioning as a starter motor for the gas turbine. Regenerative braking is another feature, the drive motor acting as a generator during deceleration to return energy to the batteries. The batteries used are of the NiCd type (remember them?) rather than the industry-standard lithium-ion of today. With its recognisably familiar instruments and controls, Volvo's ECC hybrid was claimed to be as easy to drive as a conventional car. The rotary gear selector for the automatic transmission has the familiar 'P, R, N, D, L' positions, but there is no 'automatic creep' with the Volvo hybrid, which remains at rest when in either 'D' or 'R' until the accelerator is depressed. Driving modes - 'Electric', 'Hybrid' and 'Gas Turbine' - are self-explanatory and selected via pushbuttons. When in 'Electric' mode, maximum torque is available from a standstill, though for maximum acceleration either 'Hybrid' or 'Gas Turbine;' needs to be selected. While the gas turbine is an elegant propulsion unit in engineering terms, being simple in construction and relatively light in weight, its inferior part-load fuel economy has proven an insurmountable obstacle for its use in passenger cars, even when combined with an electric motor. Currently displaying a genuine total of only 4,000 test track-kilometres on the odometer, this unique example of pioneering automotive technology was purchased in Italy from someone who had been involved in building Volvo's gas turbine/electric hybrids. The car is believed to have spent most of its life in Sweden and comes with its original Swedish number plates and extracts of a magazine featuring this Volvo.Lot to be sold without reserve. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

1974 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Auto Series IIMake: Jaguar Model: XJ6 Year: 1974Mileage: 26000VIN: 2T5704BWConfiguration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: GPD111NTransmission: automatic This Fern Grey Series II Jaguar XJ6 L 4.2 Automatic, registered in October 1974, has been off the road since 1991. It was bought from a Jaguar collector with its engine removed due to piston damage. A new engine was subsequently fitted, although the original unit is included with the sale. The odometer shows circa 26,000 miles and there has been one previous owner. The paperwork folder is quite extensive. It includes an old V5 document along with the original bill of sale (when the cost was £4913.87, less part exchange on an earlier XJ6) and service and maintenance records and invoices that seem to verify the low mileage. These start from when the car was new and stretch through to when it was taken off the road, with most of them coming from the supplying dealership, Barnard Motors Ltd of Haslemere in Surrey. The Jaguar/British Leyland 'Passport to Service' booklet is stamped up to 18,057 miles in 1979. The only recent bill is from January 2022 for new black and silver numberplates. The vendor believes the Jaguar to be 'very structurally sound with a very nice interior'. Although we have heard this car running briefly, the fuel system requires cleaning out and further recommissioning work before use. As such this Jaguar will not be driven through the auction.

Registration No: KJI 9030 Chassis No: JF1GC8KD3YG055124 MOT: November 2022Only two former keepersJust 77,276 miles from new (atoc)Very minimal mileage covered in the last four yearsUK-supplied example of the ever-popular ImprezaIntroduced on the 1st March 1993, the Impreza was offered in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive versions and as a four-door saloon or five-door hatchback/station wagon. Subaru chose to continue their longstanding use of the boxer engine in the Impreza. According to Subaru, their configuration of the engine in line with the transmission minimises body roll due to the lower centre of gravity compared with offset engines in most other cars. The boxer design provides good vibration mitigation due to the principles of a very well-balanced engine, the movement of each piston is largely countered by a piston in the opposing cylinder bank, eliminating the need for a counter-weighted rotating crankshaft (harmonic balancer). Torque steer is also minimised with this type of powertrain layout since the front driveshafts are of equal length and weight.Manufactured in the year 2000, the Impreza was supplied new via Threeways Garage Subaru in Abergele, being purchased by the first keeper on the 1st of September that year. Fitted with the 1994cc flat-four Subaru EJ engine mated to the five-speed manual transmission and is finished in Deep Blue Metallic with two-tone Grey interior upholstery. Having covered just 77,276 miles (at time of consignment) at the hands of just two former keepers. Accompanied by the original service book which displays fifteen entries, the last at 69,700 miles, along with a small selection of past MOT certificates and invoices, a no advisory MOT until November 2022 and current V5C document. Interested parties should note that the Subaru is fitted with a 'cat-less' exhaust.Footnote: For more information, please contact: Paul Cheetham paul.cheetham@handh.co.uk 07538 667452
