A GERMAN DECORATIVE IRON HATCHET, 20TH CENTURY, A CONTINENTAL INFANTRY SWORD AND A MACHETE the first perhaps an apprentice piece, with broad single-edged blade struck with the bladesmith~s mark, an anvil charged with the letter ~B~, on one face, writhen iron hilt incorporating a scrolling guard and a large ring for suspension; the second with slightly curved blade (now seized in its scabbard) and brass stirrup hilt with integral banded grip, in its scabbard (worn); the third with robust broad blade, brass guard and blackened grip, in its scabbard; and a Spanish commemorative sword, Bareclona, dated 1992, and with the Olympics motif at the forte the first: 23.5 cm; 9 1/4 in blade (4)

A Llama; and a Sheep with a Viscacha Blackboard sketches for a lecture on Tierra del Fuego charcoal and coloured chalk on paper (2) 101.5 x 135cmFootnote: Provenance: Chorley's, Gloucestershire, 'Sir Peter Scott Drawings, Prints, Books and Medals and other items, from the Estate of Lady Philippa Scott', 16th December 2010, lot 92 The only child of the Antarctic explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott and the famous sculptor Kathleen Bruce, Sir Peter Scott was a man of remarkable talent. He was a distinguished ornithologist, conservationist, wildlife artist, broadcaster, and an accomplished sportsman, notably winning a bronze medal in sailing at the 1936 Summer Olympics. He was only two years old when his father died in the doomed Terra Nova expedition to reach the South Pole. Sir Peter took an interest in wildlife and natural history at an early age. He went on to study Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge, but graduated with a degree in Art History in 1931. He pursued his interests in the arts and wildlife, leading worldwide expeditions to remote places such as Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands. The following lots were originally drawn as blackboard sketches for one of the lectures that Sir Peter gave during such expeditions. Throughout the 1970s, he was a frequent lecturer on the Lindblad Explorer, an expedition cruise ship commissioned in 1969 by the Swedish-born explorer and pioneer of expedition tours, Lars-Eric Lindblad. The voyage to Antarctica started at the world’s southernmost city - Ushuaia - the capital of Tierra del Fuego. Sir Peter served as staff on board of the Explorer alongside other famous people in the expedition world – a fellow painter Keith Shackleton (who was distantly related to Sir Ernest Shackleton), the mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary, and the prominent shark experts Ron and Valerie Taylor, among others. In 1951, Sir Peter married Philippa Talbot-Ponsonby with whom he shared his lifelong passion for wildlife conservation. The present blackboard sketches formed part of Lady Scott’s estate which was sold in December 2010.

Alpine Skiing Felix Neureuther 12x8 signed colour photo. Born in Munich-Pasing, Neureuther was raised in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria and is a member of the German national ski team. He has competed in nine World Championships and three Winter Olympics. Neureuther won a silver medal in the slalom at the 2013 World Championships and added a bronze medal in the team event. He now works in Lewes in East Sussex as an artist and designer. He has developed logos and type illustrations for some of the world's biggest companies, publications and events, including the likes of NASA, Apple, Nike, Intel, The New York Times, The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and JD Salinger's final reissue of The Catcher in the Rye. Tom McNeely (Canadian, B. 1935) "Olympics-Equestrian Events" Signed lower left. Original Watercolor painting. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This watercolor was published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 15c Equestrian Events stamp issued September 28, 1979. The first Equestrian Olympic Competition was held at the Paris Games of 1900. Accomplished horsemen and their superbly-trained mounts competed in high jump, long jump and individual dressage events. As in all Olympic sports, riding has its great champions -- those who have mastered the correct combination of flexibility, dexterity and control that equestrian events demand. Successful horsemanship requires the rider to establish a genuine partnership with his mount, demonstrating a fine balance of firmness and gentleness in controlling the horse. The skills mastered by the Olympic equestrian are not soon diminished, and talented champions have returned to the games for repeat performances. The grueling three-day Olympic event begins with a dressage competition followed by an endurance test and ends with show-jumping.
