BANNISTER & CHATAWAY: BANNISTER ROGER: (1929- ) British Athlete, the first man in history to run the mile in less than four minutes & CHATAWAY CHRISTOPHER (1931- ) British Athlete, pacemaker to Bannister. Signed First Day Cover by both Bannister and Chataway individually, the cover depicting a line drawing for the IXth British Commonwealth Games, Edinburgh 1970, and three British stamps portraying various sporting events, postmarked at Halifax, 15th July 1970. Signed in bold black inks with their names alone to a clear area of the cover. Together with a signed 8 x 10 photograph by Bannister, the image depicting Bannister, Chris Chataway and Chris Brasher in three quarter length poses wearing their England blazers as they embark for the flight to the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver. Signed by Bannister in bold black ink with his name alone to a clear area of the image. Also including Christopher Brasher (1928-2003) British Track and Field Athlete. Signed 2 x 5½ photocopied photograph, the image depicting Brasher jumping over a water obstacle during the 3,000 metres steeple chase at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Malcolm MacDonald European Superstars Vest + Salver 1975: The vest that Malcolm wore while winning the 100m sprint in a record 10.9 seconds in Malmo which was quick enough to qualify for the Olympics at the time. Malcolm came 4th overall in the Superstars final in Rotterdam and included in this lot is the silver salver stating "The Superstars European Championship 1975 Finalist Malcolm MacDonald". C/W green vest that Malcolm wore whilst winning the English version to qualify for the finals. (3)
ICE SKATING Collection of 18 letters , notes, Christmas Cards etc, all personally signed and hand written and sent to Dennis Bird who was the ice skating correspondent of The Times and under his pen -name , John Noel, was editor of Skating World. The letters are from various Lady World Champions and Olympic Competitors including Carol Heiss World Champion 1956-60 and Gold Medal 1960 Olympics, Cecilia Colledge (1936 Olympics Silver and 1937 World Champion) , other letters from Courtney Jones and Sonja Kaye plus Alena Zanova (World Champion 1949-50). Kitty Arden (British, Contemporary), "Welcome Darling", hand painted Monoprint in Oils, signed and dated in pencil to the margin Kitty Arden '88 (1988) and numbered 1/60, gilt framed and glazed, 49cm x 63cm, Kitty Arden is a designer, artist and royal florist of international renown. She studied at Chelsea College of Art and Camberwell College of Art and Design. She also designs for Royal Warrant holding companies and recently exhibited at The Great Festival of Creativity, Shanghai. HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge opened the exhibition at The Bond Museum where Kitty exhibited as British designer. The Kitty Arden brand includes Luxury Silk Cruise Wear and her Silk Scarf range was chosen for The British House in Rio for the 2016 Olympics.
