1930 WORLD CUP Two items covering the initial World Cup held in Uruguay 1930. A large colour team group of Uruguay Campeones del Mundo issued by Mundo Uruguay. The colourised team group shows the winning Uruguay team and the top corners of the supplement have smaller colourised team groups of Uruguay in the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam which they won to become the World Champions and in the Paris Olympics of 1924 which was also won by Uruguay. The second item is a copy of Mundo Uruguayo magazine dated August 14th 1930 which includes further coverage of the tournament plus coverage of Penarol and Nacional. Team group colour supplement has folds but is in generally good condition whilst there is slight ageing to the magazine. Fair-generally good

JOHN MOTSON - MOTTY A superb collection of 20 scrapbooks covering the broadcasting career of legendary sports commentator John Motson. These scrapbooks, compiled by the Motson family, cover the period between 1968 and 2004 and include a multitude of personal and professional items, most of which are laid down . The early days include Journalism certificates, job offers from the BBC and print media, photographs, letters and telegrams from other commentators and a fascinating array of match tickets, media passes, airline tickets, programmes for a number of services of remembrance and many press cuttings relating to John. John has covered many sports and whilst football items are in the majority , numerous other sports are covered including tennis at Wimbledon, boxing, horse racing and the Olympics. Many Cup Final tickets are included, a Barnsley season ticket for 67-68 admitting the Sheffield Morning Telegraph, match tickets (too numerous to mention) from 1967 onwards including 68 Charity Shield at Man City, club games from 69/70 inc games at Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham, boxing Cooper v Urtain 10/11/70, Bugner v Blin 71. Tickets from 70/71 include Arsenal at Man City and at Liverpool and there is a BEA ticket to Vienna 29/4/70 plus a match ticket for the Cup-Winners Cup Final, Man City v Gornik on that day in Vienna. These are just some examples of the broad coverage of the scrapbooks covering over 35 years of Motty and they are fascinating to browse through. The large majority of items are laid down and the scrapbooks are large and in generally good condition. This is the sporting life of a TV legend with a good number of more personal items included and they are a delight to browse through with many more items included than those noted above. Scarce Dr Joseph Goebbels personal invitation to Herrn Major Zlatan Geneff - to attend the 1936 Sommerfest (Summer Festival) on 15 August 1936 to celebrate the end of the 1936 Olympics Games. The invitation is very large measuring 12 by 8 inches (31 x 22 cm) and includes the original handwritten envelope. On the front it has a water colour picture of the Pfauen Insel (Peacock Island) where the party was held with two further pictures of the island inside. The invitation and the letter are in very good condition with no foxing.

Alasdair wanted to replace such static photographic realism with an expressionist style to reflect the speed and energy represented by the sporting horse in action. In 2000 Alasdair began showing his work at major equestrian events around the UK. The popularity of his early work in pastels and charcoal resulted in invitations to become Artist in Residence at Blair Castle and later at the Horse of the Year Show at Olympia. In 2002 Equestrian Art Ltd. began representing the artist. In 2008 Alasdair added works based on oil and canvas to his repertoire of pastels and ceramic sculptures. Also in 2008 Lloyds TSB banking Group, the major sponsor for the 2012 London Olympics invited Alasdair to become the chosen artist to portray equestrian sports at the Games.
