WILLIAM MACKENZIE THOMSON (BRITISH, FL. 1870-1892), The First Class cruiser H.M.S. 'Hawke', Signed 'Mackenzie Thomson' (lower left), Watercolour heightened with body colour, scratching out, 11½ x 17¾in. (29 x 44.5cm.), An 'Edgar' Class cruiser of 1889, Hawke was sunk by U-9 on 15th October, 1914, the same submarine that had infamously sunk Hogue, Aboukir and Cressy three weeks earlier. She was also the ship that was badly damaged by R.M.S. Olympic in 1911 but which also tore a hole flooding two of Olympics compartments in the process. Hawke was cleared of all blame.

The present medal comes from the 2nd Winter Maccabiah which was staged February 18th to 22nd, 1936, in Banska Bystrica the in Czechoslovakia. 2,000 athletes participated from 12 participating nations.This was to prove the last time a winter Maccabiah was held, with no attempts to revive it after the 2nd World War - although the Maccabi World Union still runs smaller regional winter games to date.

1948 LONDON OLYMPICS Large colour signed caricature picture of Mel Patton (USA) who won gold in the 200 metres Final and also in the 4 x 100 metres relay at the 1948 London Olympics. The relay gold originally went to GB as the USA were disqualified but newsreel coverage a few days later showed a mistake had been made and the disqualification was rescinded and USA awarded gold. 1928 OLYMPICS- AMSTERDAM Very rare ticket issued for the Football Tournament which was effectively the World Cup. The hand stamp affixed confirms accreditation for the Football and these were only issued to players, officials, press and visiting dignitaries and it provided entry to all games including the Final. Uruguay defeated Argentina 2-1 in a replay after a 1-1 draw three days earlier. Good

This programme covers the last 16 game between Holland and Roumania, 27/5/1924, with full team line-ups, results to date and matches for the last sixteen.
