THOMAS "TOM" SIMPSON; an important archive relating to the cyclist comprising a yellow and blue jersey worn by Simpson and detailed "Rapha Geminiani", seen worn by Simpson in the album of photographs for his victory in the Tour of the West of France, 1959, Lorient-Quimper, a black and white vertically striped "Carpano" jersey with label for Seregni & Gallazzi of Milan, a blue and red striped "England" jersey with label for Tricot Noret St. Denoval, a cream long sleeve rainbow striped jersey, and a pale blue and cream "Bianchi Firelli" jersey, also included in the lot are a number of pennants and a large collection of cloth badges, a cream, red and black sash "Stadien Wielerbaan Amsterdam 1950", a black cloth bag "Enfield R.C. Spring Racing Weekend, Double Diamond", and an album mainly comprising newspaper, magazine articles and pictures covering 1959-1964 as well as six letters dated 1959 from Simpson to the vendor's father, one dated 10-11-59 detailing a visit to Liverpool to see "Dave" stating he will bring over several articles for his collection including jerseys, pennants, and such. Tom Simpson was one of Britain's most successful cyclists, he won a bronze medal for track cycling at the 1956 Summer Olympics, and a silver medal at the 1958 British Empire & Commonwealth Games. When he turned professional at the age of 21, he won the 1961 Tour of Flanders and became the first British rider to wear the yellow jersey during the 1962 Tour de France. In 1963 he won several other races and in 1965 became Britain's first World Road Race Champion, also winning the Giro di Lombardia, making him the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, the first cyclist to win this award. Sadly, Simpson collapsed and died during the ascent of Mont Ventoux during the 1967 Tour de France aged just 29. CONDITION REPORT: Jerseys are of mixed condition, some moth holes.

Brian Horrocks signed RAF Upavon Avor York cover. Lieutenant-General Sir Brian Gwynne Horrocks, KCB, KBE, DSO, MC (7 September 1895 – 4 January 1985) was a senior British Army officer. He is chiefly remembered as the commander of XXX Corps in Operation Market Garden and other operations during the Second World War. He also served in the First World War and the Russian Civil War, was a prisoner of war twice, and competed in the 1924 Paris Olympics. Later he was a television presenter, authored books on military history, and was Black Rod in the House of Lords for 14 years. Good condition. All signed items come with Certificate of Authenticity. The print on the reverse of the card is in Greek and French, No. 62295 Librarie de l'Hestia, a 1948 Olympic Games Wembley GB first day cover issued 29/7/1948, an envelope with a 1948 Olympic Games stamp and a Guernsey date stamp 29/7/1948, a Melbourne 1956 first day cover with a Polish stamp and date stamp 12/12/1956, a 1960 Rome first day cover with 3 stamps and 2 date stamps 11/9/1960 and an official postcard for the Franco-British Exhibition in London 1908 where the 1908 Olympics were held due to the eruption of Vesuvius in 1906 which meant they were transferred from Rome. ABRAHAMS HAROLD: (1899-1978) British Athlete, Olympic Gold medallist, 1924. His feat in the Olympics 100 metres sprint was depicted in the film Chariots of Fire (1981). Three T.Ls.S., Harold M Abrahams, five pages (total), 8vo (two oblong), Kensington, London, September - November 1966, all to Mr. Rutter. Abrahams writes to his correspondent in order to make arrangements for a lecture, changing the proposed date to 2nd November, discussing the various options of trains etc., in part, 'I shall be bringing a number of coloured slides (between 75 and 100) and assume you will very kindly arrange for a lantern, screen and projectionist' (30th September 1966), 'I must get back to London the same evening as I have to leave for a professional appointment in Newark at lunch time the following day….I certainly do not want to spoil the evening in any way….If you would like to discuss this problem, ring me up…..As I live on my own there will be no answer, of course, if I am out - either shopping, working or away from London' (21st October 1966), 'There was an amusing paragraph in the Sussex Daily News from Chris Bale who years ago was Sports Editor of the Sunday Times. Curiously enough I was talking about him the very day I came down. He was not present at the lecture or would surely have come up to me!!' (13th November 1966). Each with two file holes to the left edges, not affecting the text or signatures. Generally VG, 3
