Original vintage sport poster published by the Levi Strauss clothing brand (founded 1853) for the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games featuring colourful artwork depicting a gymnast executing a perfect handstand on a map of Asia with small silhouettes showing a sequence of her gymnastics routine ending with a flying bird along one of the striped lines in the background, the Levi's logo and stylised title text in the margin below. One of a series of six posters commissioned by the blue jeans manufacturer Levi's as official sponsors of the US team for the 1980 Olympic Games; this Levi's Olympic Opportunity Sweepstakes campaign emphasised a sport associated with each of the six continents competing in the event - Skiing (North America), Gymnastics (Asia), Swimming (Australia), Track & Field (Africa), Soccer (South America), Cycling (Europe) - but the posters were withdrawn following the decision by US President Carter to boycott the Olympics in protest after the USSR invaded Afghanistan in December 1979. The 1908 Games were awarded to Rome but when Vesuvius erupted in 1906, it caused great problems in Italy and due to financial restraints they gave up the Games and it was awarded to London, they were the longest running games from 27th April to the skating on 28/29th October, running in conjunction with The Exhibition.
