An armorial decanter and stopper c.1800, of mallet shape, engraved with the coat of arms for the Delaval family of Northumberland, beneath a band of cut lappets and two faceted neck rings, 30cm. (2) The Delaval family originated in France and settled in Northumberland following the Norman Conquest. This decanter was probably made for Edward Hussey Delaval, who shared the Copley Medal in 1766 for his research on metals and glass. He was known for his performances on musical glasses. Provenance: from a private collection in Sussex.

A Victorian coromandel fitted toilet box by C Asprey of 166 Bond Street, the hinged cover opening to reveal concealed mirror behind plush red velvet panel, and a selection of silver topped glass bottles and boxes (incomplete), silver assayed London 1856, the whole with secret end base drawer, w.30.5cm Condition Report / Extra Information Case excellent, no splits, losses or repairs to timber. All brass furniture good. All hinges good and original with no splits. Closes perfectly. Lock appears good but there is no key. One decanter with small fracture/bruise near base, otherwise all glass good. Gilt metal tray lightly tarnished. In summary, an excellent example in first class condition. We would advise MailBoxes for shipping due to the value and fragility of this lot.

Box possibly made up as of poor construction. Veneers good. One bottle restored, otherwise good. Some gilt wear to stoppers and necks only.
